Free agent OT Max Starks is visiting the Chargers on Wednesday. The Union-Tribune San Diego reported on Monday the Chargers "(hadn't) reached out" to Starks, but a cursory call was long overdue from a team with a massive need at left tackle. A 16-game starter for the Steelers last season, Starks allowed a whopping 40 hurries, but would still likely be a better bet than King Dunlap or Kevin Haslam. San Diego is Starks' first visit of free agency.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette doesn't expect the Steelers to re-sign free agent OT Max Starks. Beat writer Ed Bouchette doesn't completely rule it out, but believes the Steelers are serious about getting younger and more athletic up front. Starks hasn't made a single visit since the start of free agency, but that could change now that Bryant McKinnie is off the market.

The Union-Tribune San Diego thinks it "would make sense" for the Chargers to be interested in free agent LT Max Starks. Starks, 31, started all 16 games on Ben Roethlisberger's blind side for the first time in three years in 2012. He also knows new OC Ken Whisenhunt from their time together in Pittsburgh. Starks and Bryant McKinnie are the two best free-agent left tackles on the market not named Jared Gaither.

The Steelers are not expected to re-sign impending free agent LT Max Starks. Starks, 31, was the only Steelers' lineman to play every snap in 2012, and he was arguably the team's best blocker up front. However, OC Todd Haley and new OL coach Jack Bicknell Jr. want linemen who can move and run, not guys who "get huge and then they can't bend and move." Starks is a massive player at 6-foot-8 and 345 pounds, so he certainly doesn't fit that description. Marcus Gilbert is expected to shift to left tackle.

The Steelers have turned back to veteran Max Starks as their starting left tackle. It'll be Starks' fifth straight season as Ben Roethlisberger's blindside protector. Rookie Mike Adams simply "did not show enough" in practices or preseason games to win the job the Steelers drafted him to win, so they're turning back to old reliable. A 12-game starter in 2011, Starks graded out above-average across the board, according to Pro Football Focus. After watching Adams play in August, we think this is good news for Roethlisberger's fantasy value.

Max Starks (ACL surgery) will start at left tackle in Saturday's game versus the Bills. Starks said last week that he wouldn't be ready for game action for "awhile," so he's ahead of schedule. The veteran's return is a big boost for an offensive line that has had Ben Roethlisberger on the run through two preseason games.

Steelers LT Max Starks (ACL surgery) has been activated from the camp/PUP list. Starks can return to full practice on Friday, but won't suit up against the Colts on Sunday. With rookie LT Mike Adams sidelined with a "mild MCL sprain," Starks has a strong chance of starting in Week 1, but for now RT Marcus Gilbert is manning the blindside.

Steelers LT Max Starks (ACL surgery) is expected to be activated from the camp PUP list within two weeks. Starks will likely be immediately inserted into the starting lineup, pushing Marcus Gilbert back to the right side and allowing rookie Mike Adams the time he needs to develop.
