With the Vikings set to be without both Mike Hughes (neck) and Cameron Dantzler (ribs), they elected to stay in-house with the promotion of Fields. The 23-year-old suited up in one game for the Vikings last season, seeing just eight total snaps, so he'll likely be in line for a similar role for Week 3.

Despite the Vikings' lack of depth at corner, they decided to cut Fields and add linebacker Devante Downs. It's interesting that Fields was waived and not waived/injured, as he tended to a groin injury in practice this week. If he clears waivers, he'll be free to sign elsewhere right away.
