Lions coach Jim Schwartz considers FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) "week-to-week," and concedes he's unlikely to play in either of Detroit's final two preseason games. "We're closing in on that (getting Delmas ready for the regular season) for sure," Schwartz said. "He's not to the point that he's even on a progression right now. He's week-to-week. He's not day-to-day." Schwartz said it's "looking like" Delmas will be ready for Week 1, but it certainly shouldn't be considered a sure thing. John Wendling will start against the Rams if Delmas isn't ready.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) is expected back for Week 1. Delmas had his second knee surgery in the last eight months on Tuesday. He's unlikely to play in the preseason, but that wouldn't stop the Lions from starting him against the Rams on Sept. 9. John Wendling is currently running as the starting free safety in Delmas' place.

Lions FS Louis Delmas underwent left knee surgery Tuesday. Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure. The only good news for Delmas is that this is not the same knee that kept him out of the final five regular season games last season. Still, it's the second knee surgery in eight months for the man coach Jim Schwartz calls the "soul" of his defense. Even if this surgery turns out to be a mere "scope," Delmas' Week 1 availability is in doubt.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee) is without a timetable for a return. "He's battled some soreness in his knee and until we get a handle on that and get him through, then we don't need to worry about anything else," coach Jim Schwartz said when asked if Delmas would be ready for Week 1. "We're worried about short-term and how that approach is. We're not worried about regular season." Delmas is assured of sitting out Friday's preseason opener, and likely won't be ready for Detroit's second exhibition tilt on August 17. We'd be surprised if he wasn't ready for Week 1, however.

Lions FS Louis Delmas has missed the majority of camp with a left knee injury. Delmas sat out Saturday after missing "most" of the Lions' past five practices. Delmas missed the Lions' final five games after undergoing right knee surgery last season, but did suit up for Detroit's Wild Card loss to the Saints. He'll almost certainly sit out Friday's preseason opener.

FS Louis Delmas is a candidate for the franchise tag in 2013. Delmas is set to earn just $937,250 in 2012, the final year of his rookie contract. As the most important piece of the Lions' secondary, there's almost no way the organization lets him get away. If a long-term deal can't be hammered out, expect the franchise tag. This year's tag number for safeties was $6.2 million.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) says he's 100 percent. Playing at less than 100 percent, Delmas made 10 tackles in Detroit's Wild Card loss to the Saints, but missed the final five games of the regular season after tearing his right MCL on Thanksgiving and undergoing arthroscopic surgery on December 17. He'll be full-go for OTAs.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee) is active and starting at New Orleans for the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Delmas figures to be rusty in his first game since Thanksgiving, but he's still a major upgrade on speed-challenged Chris Harris. Kevin Smith (ankle, knee) and Calvin Johnson (Achilles) are active, as expected. Lions inactives: QB Drew Stanton, RB Joique Bell, OG Leonard Davis, DT Andre Fluellen, LB Doug Hogue, CB Brandon McDonald, and S Chris Harris.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) is expected to be active Saturday for the first time since Thanksgiving. Delmas wasn't the only defensive back injured late in the season, but it's worth noting that the Lions' passing yards allowed went from 211 yards in the first 10 games to 332 yards in the final six. Delmas will have his hands full with Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston on Saturday night.

Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) has resumed practicing, but will not be active for Week 17. The Lions are trying to get their starting free safety in shape for the postseason after he tore his right MCL on Thanksgiving and underwent arthroscopic surgery on December 17. Delmas' injury is one of many that led to a rough December for the Lions' pass defense. Chris Harris will make another start in his place against the Packers.
