Lions coach Jim Schwartz considers FS Louis Delmas (knee surgery) "week-to-week," and concedes he's unlikely to play in either of Detroit's final two preseason games. "We're closing in on that (getting Delmas ready for the regular season) for sure," Schwartz said. "He's not to the point that he's even on a progression right now. He's week-to-week. He's not day-to-day." Schwartz said it's "looking like" Delmas will be ready for Week 1, but it certainly shouldn't be considered a sure thing. John Wendling will start against the Rams if Delmas isn't ready.

As the most important piece of the Lions' secondary, there's almost no way the organization lets him get away. If a long-term deal can't be hammered out, expect the franchise tag. This year's tag number for safeties was $6.2 million.
