The Jets are considering using CB Kyle Wilson at free safety in the base defense this season.
It would be a sensible move. Although Wilson (5'10/190) is undersized for safety, he has enough range to man centerfield, and the Jets' biggest defensive weakness is at free safety. Rookie Dee Milliner has taken Wilson's old starting corner job. The Jets could use Wilson in a Ronde Barber-like role, playing free safety in the base defense and slot cornerback in the nickel and dime.

Kyle Wilson has been working mostly as the Jets' nickel corner during offseason workouts.
Wilson held his own while taking over for Darrelle Revis last season, but will be challenged by first-round pick Dee Milliner for the No. 2 spot behind Antonio Cromartie. After making 13 starts on the outside in 2012, Wilson is expected to return to slot duties.

Jets CB Kyle Wilson is "destined" to return back to nickel duties.
Our last update we had on Wilson was that he was expected to start on the outside in 2013. That has since changed, following the selection of Dee Milliner. Wilson covered the slot in his first two seasons in the league before playing on the outside in 2012, so it's not an unfamiliar role.

Kyle Wilson is expected to take over as the Jets' full-time starting corner opposite Antonio Cromartie.
It's easy to forget that even though Darrelle Revis missed 13 games last year, the Jets had the NFL's No. 2 pass defense. Give credit to Cromartie, who was borderline dominant as a shadow corner, and Wilson, who held up reasonably well against No. 2 wideouts. The Jets could add competition for Wilson in the form a draft pick. They've been linked to Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden.

Kyle Wilson will take Darrelle Revis' (knee) spot in the starting lineup.
Wilson, a third-year pro out of Boise State, has been up-and-down as the slot corner. Now that he's playing every down opposite Antonio Cromartie, the Jets are going to have to adjust their whole scheme. Ellis Lankster will slide into the No. 3 role, leaving this secondary as one to attack in fantasy circles.

Rex Ryan may be forced to play more zone coverage with Darrelle Revis (concussion) out for Sunday's contest agains the Steelers.
The Jets secondary would likely be exposed in man-to-man coverage against the Steelers three-receiver sets if they aggressively blitz Ben Roethlisberger. Kyle Wilson will start in place of Revis, leaving them with Ellis Lankster and Isaiah Trufant as their No. 3 and No. 4 corners. Needless to say, this is a great matchup for Roethlisberger as well as WRs Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace.

Jets coach Rex Ryan believes Kyle Wilson has rebounded from a rough rookie year to emerge as the NFL's best nickel back this season.
"He's playing unbelievable for us and it's only going to get better," added Darrelle Revis. "He wants it. He wants to be great and he's on the way." Pro Football Focus has rated Wilson as the No. 49 NFL cornerback this year after he graded out 54th last season. If the Jets are so confident in Wilson, perhaps they'll leave him in the slot to cover Wes Welker this week.

Jets HC Rex Ryan says second-year CB Kyle Wilson looks like a "different guy" from his rookie year.
"His confidence is there," Ryan said. "He's carrying himself different." That's good, since Wilson appeared lost for much of 2010. Wilson should open the season as New York's nickel back as long as he looks competent in the Jets' preseason games.
