Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 11 fantasysharks.com Tue 11/12/13 5:00 AM
We set aside our top category this week, as nothing stands out as being ‘Smokin' Hot.' There are plenty of players in all our other categories, many of which can be fantasy contributors right away. All the key positions have players worth looking at this week, including a pair of quarterbacks and a trio of tight ends. Several fantasy players are ready to emerge in the coming weeks, so grab them before they become hot commodities.
We continue to be high on several running backs that are owned in most formats, but not all, and we'd pick them up over all the players listed this week. This list includes Rashad Jennings (Oakland), Andre Brown (New York Giants), Bernard Pierce (Baltimore) and Shane Vereen (New England). At the wide receiver position, those falling into that same category include Aaron Dobson (New England), Kenny Stills (New Orleans) and Jarrett Boykin (Green Bay).
Fear not, if those players are gone, we've got something for everyone in this week's wonders!
Solid Pickups
TE John Carlson, Minnesota
Last week we mentioned Carlson as a "deep" look, this week he graduates as one of this week's top waiver wire pickups. Starting in place of the injured Kyle Rudolph, Carlson caught seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown against Washington. Rudolph was averaging close to 50 yards per game. Based on this first week without Rudolph, we look for Carlson to keep those numbers going as the starting Vikings' tight end.
WR Rishard Matthews, Miami
The loss of Brandon Gibson clears a spot for Matthews in the lineup, and Monday night against Tampa Bay had him being featured in the slot position. Ryan Tannehill looked in his direction early and often in the contest, as Matthews rang up close to 100 yards in the first half alone, including a touchdown pass. Matthews is worth owning as a low-end wide receiver in all formats.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tennessee
With Jake Locker done for the season, the Titans will turn to Fitzpatrick for the duration of the season as their starter. To go along with 264 passing yards, he threw two touchdowns and no interceptions. Of more importance is Fitzpatrick's ability to run, as he also ran his way into the end zone this week. As the starter going forward, Fitzpatrick is worth owning as a backup fantasy quarterback.
On the Radar
RB Brian Leonard, Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to rip through running backs, with this week's starter Mike James leaving Monday night's game early with an apparent...
Feast or Famine - Week 7 fantasysharks.com Fri 10/18/13 7:30 AM
Every week I will pick and choose certain players that will produce above (feast) or below (famine) our Fantasy Sharks Player Projections. A couple guys every week may be obvious, but some might surprise you.
Feast
Danny Woodhead, RB, San Diego
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 8 Points
Woodhead showed that he can be a viable fantasy option even when Ryan Mathews does well. Look for even bigger things this week against Jacksonville, especially in the passing game.
Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 4 Points
Jay Cutler missed Jeffrey on multiple throws last week against the New York Giants. Start him with confidence against Washington, one of the worst defenses in the league. Jeffrey will be fine as long as Cutler is on.
Jerome Simpson, WR, Minnesota
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 3 Points
Although it may not be by much, Josh Freeman is an upgrade over Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder. Simpson has been involved each week while averaging almost eight targets per game.
Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 4 Points
Fleener is his own worst enemy. The recent case of stone hands he developed has been annoying, but he has the best opportunity of the season this week against Denver. Tight ends with competent quarterbacks have shredded the Denver defense for years.
Famine
Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 24 Points
Flacco is a below-average quarterback and usually struggles against Pittsburgh. I expect this game to be an old-fashioned slugfest between these teams with Flacco putting up a line around 215 yards with a touchdown and an interception -- his average game against Pittsburgh.
Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 18 Points
Randall Cobb's injury will boost Lacy's fantasy value in the long term, but don't expect much change this week. Cleveland has the seventh-best rush defense in the league.
Kyle Rudolph, TE, Minnesota
Fantasy Sharks Projection: 13 Points
Rudolph put up his first solid game of the season because Adrian Peterson had only 10 rushing attempts. Minnesota will have a much more balanced game this week and Rudolph will regress back into the fantasy wasteland.
Risers and Fallers - Week 7 fantasysharks.com Fri 10/18/13 6:00 AM
Knowshon Moreno - Let's start with full disclosure here, I hate him. No two ways around it. I'm fully in support of LeSean McCoy's "he sucks" comment. Moreno was a full buy-in player in his rookie season when he just missed a 1,000-yard season and pitched in mightily in the receiving game. Then the wheels fell off. Moreno pulled three hamstrings (that's right, three) the following season and then suffered a significant knee injury. Adding insult to literal injury is the fact that Moreno was then arrested in the offseason for DUI. Heading in to this season, rumors swirled around Moreno being supplanted on the roster by rookie Montee Ball and being downright cut from the team. Things have certainly turned around for Moreno as he's been one of the best fantasy producers to date and is coming off a triple touchdown game. Is Moreno an unquestionable top-10 fantasy football running back? This game, and the rest of 2013, could lead us to believe so. If he continues on this pace, there is no doubting a top-10 designation next season.
Brandon Jacobs - The new, old New York Giants runner had more than 20 carries last Thursday against the always powerful Chicago defense. He turned those carries into more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. With David Wilson's neck injury looking to bother him for the rest of the season, Jacobs could be in line for about 20 touches a game. It's extremely rare to find a player with such a workload at this point in the season on the waiver wire. The question is: Can Jacobs keep converting those carries into meaningful fantasy stats? Added to the question of Jacobs being able to handle such work at his age, with his offensive line, and his below average speed, is the recent pickup of Peyton Hillis. Will Hillis cut into Jacobs' touches? Will Hillis, more importantly, be utilized in the red zone, all but ending Jacobs' true value? This week will show if Jacobs is for real or just a one-and-done performer.
Kyle Rudolph - Last week he had a nine-catch effort for just less than 100 yards with a touchdown. These are the kind of numbers owners were expecting from Rudolph here in 2013. The change at quarterback from Matt Cassel to newly acquired Josh Freeman could either be a blessing or a curse. In his time with Tampa Bay, Freeman leaned heavily on his wide receivers and often overlooked the tight end. There were games where Dallas Clark was effective but more often than not it was the wide receivers who handled the load. That means that ...
Dynasty Dilemma: Vernon Davis, SF vs. Kyle Rudolph, MIN dynastyfootballwarehou... Thu 8/1/13 7:30 AM
DFW writer Josh Haymond (@JPesoFF), brings us his next in line in his Dynasty Dilemma series. This week's dilemma pits San Francisco TE and beast Vernon Davis VS Minnesota's go-to-guy Kyle Rudolph.
Kyle Rudolph The Red Zone Reindeer rotoviz.com Tue 7/30/13 2:16 PM
Many experts rightfully pegged former Notre Dame TE Kyle Rudolph as a sleeper candidate coming into the 2012 season. Rudolph finished as TE9 by finding the endzone at a consistent rate during his sophomore campaign. In 2013 Rudolph is being drafted at pick 7.11 as the 6th TE off of the board. The 7th round is too high for a player who's small-sample fantasy production has relied on fantasy football's least predictable stat, touchdowns....
Fantasy Perspective: Minnesota Vikings fantasysharks.com Wed 6/19/13 6:00 AM
Looking at the Minnesota Vikings roster, there are three players that stand out as commodities fantasy players will feel comfortable drafting. Adrian Peterson, the 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player, tight end Kyle Rudolph, the 2012 Pro Bowl MVP, and Pro Bowl kicker Blair Walsh. The rest of the roster, including the Vikings defense, has flags with question marks attached.
What can one say about Peterson? Your scribe is a diehard Vikings fan that is an eternal optimist drinking out of a half-full glass, but even I never saw last year coming. Peterson must be a cyborg. I'm just glad he's our cyborg. Peterson had a record-breaking year last season. He was the Vikings offense in several games. Opposing teams knew the Vikings were going to run the ball at them. They played eight or nine men in the box and still couldn't stop the Vikings running game. This writer still finds that absolutely mind boggling. NFL defenses usually adapt and can find a way to stop the run if they want to. Eight or nine men in the box usually will do the trick, but not in this case. Defensive coordinators' minds are still boggled. At least I'm not alone.
Unless you're in a league with obsessed fans, which will overdraft to get their guy, you'll have to have a top-2 pick to be in position to draft Peterson. He's a fantasy dream who will win your team games by himself. Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012. He had 10 games where he rushed for 100 yards or more. He had a career-high 40 receptions for 217 yards and one touchdown. It's doubtful he is going to rush for 2,000 yards again. If you are able to accomplish that once in a career you're a Greek God. Peterson is talking about rushing for 2,500 yards this year. After last season, don't doubt him. He's obviously not human. The question is whether he can perform an encore in 2013. I'm betting he can.
The good news is the Vikings re-signed free agent starting right tackle Phil Loadholt and Pro Bowl fullback Jerome Felton. The offensive line returns intact and will only improve. The Vikings have solid starters at center, with Pro Bowl candidate John Sullivan, and the previously mentioned Loadholt at right tackle. At left tackle, 2012 first-round pick Matt Kalil, will be entering his second year and should improve over his rookie campaign, in which he made the Pro Bowl. The Vikings are expecting Brandon Fusco, a 2011 sixth-round pick, to step up his play at right guard. Fusco played center during his college career at ...

Monday Night Takeaway -- Week 13 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/4/12 4:00 AM 1 Comment
New York 16, Washington 17
Giants
The dual that started in week seven did not disappoint as the two quarterbacks traded blows all game long. On the receiving end for the Giants was Victor Cruz racking up 104 yards on five receptions. Nice to see Cruz stepping up his game just in time for the fantasy playoffs. Martellus Bennett was also a beneficiary catching five of seven targets, for 82 yards and the Giants lone touchdown. With the Saints coming to the Big Apple, Bennett has medium fantasy value as a lower TE1.
With Andre Brown out for the season, Ahmad Bradshaw finally got the workload we all projected according to his third round ADP touching the ball 26 times for 116 yards. Bradshaw should be cemented in our lineups as a borderline RB1 next week facing New Orleans.
Redskins
Robert Griffin III must be touched by fate after his fumble jumped right into the hands of Skins wide receiver Josh Morgan who rolled in for a 13-yard touchdown. Not the greatest of fantasy performances, Griffin was able to set the single season rookie rushing record, the primary reason he remains a solid fantasy starter. The future of the NFL quarterback position looks brighter than ever.
After a mid third quarter fumble Mike Shannahan showed his confidence in rookie running back Alfred Morris giving him the ball repeatedly on the very next series. Although Morris will never be considered for rookie of the year, he'd certainly get my vote for best draft value, both NFL and fantasy.
Pierre Garcon owners who were patient all season look to have a solid WR2 on their hands. He is a lineup lock now making the championship push.
Tuesday Morning Quick Hits
•Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, he's done for the season. Head coach Jim Schwartz says Titus Young will not replace Broyles in the lineup meaning Mike Thomas becomes a player of intrigue.
•Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson are expected to return Thursday night, but the timeshare is still unknown. Best to avoid all Raiders running backs.
•Chargers left tackle Mike Harris has suffered a high ankle sprain. Best to avoid all Chargers players not named Danario Alexander (low end WR3) this week facing Pittsburgh.
•Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he'll stick with the "hot hand" at running back meaning James Starks is nothing more than a mid-RB3.
•McCarthy also stated that Jordy Nelson will be "hard pressed to play" this weekend after suffering a hamstring injury. Find other ...
