Panthers agreed to terms with S Kevin Payne, formerly of the Rams. Payne spent last year out of football while rehabbing a preseason knee injury. The 27-year-old strong safety offers some special teams value and was highly thought of by small-school scouting services coming out of Louisiana-Monroe. He'll push for the third safety role behind Sherrod Martin and Charles Godfrey.
