Chargers released WR Kelley Washington. Washington's chances of making the roster went up in smoke when he injured his knee three weeks ago. Active eight times for the Bolts last season, he notched 13 catches for 173 yards. He should get into a game somewhere this year.

Chargers WR Kelley Washington (knee strain) is expected to miss six weeks. Earlier reports had Washington out just three weeks after he injured the knee on Thursday. The injury should open up a roster spot for kickoff return specialist Bryan Walters.

Coach Norv Turner revealed Friday that WR Kelley Washington suffered a knee strain in Thursday's preseason opener and is out three weeks. When we hear three weeks, we think it's got to be something more serious than a "strain." A partially torn MCL -- in some circles referred to as an MCL "sprain" -- is probably more likely. Either way, it'll give impressive kickoff return prospect Bryan Walters a better chance of cracking San Diego's roster.

Chargers agreed to terms with WR Kelley Washington on a one-year deal. Washington was picked up off the street by the Chargers last November. He showed enough to earn a special teams role once again.
