Maiava (hamstring) was waived off of injured reserve by the Raiders on Monday, CSN Bay Area reports. Maiva signed a three-year contract before last season, and then landed on IR in both 2013 and 2014. He started just three of his 13 games with the Raiders, compiling 32 tackles (18 solo) over parts of two seasons.

Nonetheless, his potential absence would further deplete an already injured riddled Raiders' linebacking corp, leaving the team with just three active players at the position.

With the Browns transitioning to the 3-4, his services are no longer needed. The 26-year-old is a fine special teams player.

Kaluka Maiava will enter the season as the Browns' starting weak-side linebacker. Coordinator Dick Jauron insists Maiava has had a "terrific camp," but there's a reason he's been limited to special teams since being drafted in 2009. The Eagles fantasy players have a made-to-order Week 1 matchup with Maiava and UFDA L.J. Fort starting at two of the three lineback spots.
