Perry announced his retirement Monday, Joshua Perry of ESPN.com reports.

Perry cited a handful of concussions when describing his decision to concussion, placing his long-term health outlook over the opportunity to earn an NFL paycheck. He spent parts of two seasons in the league with the Chargers, Colts and Seahawks as he notched 22 total tackles in 17 career games.

Perry secured a contract with the Seahawks on Monday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Perry spent less than a month of the 2017 season with Indianapolis before being waived in November. The 24-year-old linebacker suited up for two games but only played four defensive snaps and made no tackles. Perry will battle for a special teams position with Seattle.

However that likely suggests the gravity of Perry's head injury, which he suffered during the team's final preseason contest, could be worse than originally predicted. He should revert to injured reserve should he pass through waivers.

Perry figures to play at inside linebacker for San Diego, backing up Denzel Perryman and Manti Te'o, but he has the size and athleticism to see some outside work in a 3-4, too. Perry should provide swing backup linebacker ability and provide San Diego with a valuable game day piece, even if he isn't a starter in the short term.
