The Chiefs have re-signed Mauga to a three-year contract worth approximately $8 million, per ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The contract indicates that Mauga will start at inside linebacker next to Derrick Johnson, who missed nearly the entire 2014 season after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 1. While Johnson is the player for IDP owners to target, Mauga did manage 103 tackles (82 solo) over 16 games in 2014, albeit with minimal secondary statistics.

He enters the offseason as a free agent, and while it seems unlikely he will return to the Chiefs as a starter with both Derrick Johnson and Joe Mays set to return, he may have set himself up for a multi-year deal with his performance.

He has taken advantage of the opportunity afforded to him by the injuries to Derrick Johnson and Joe Mays at inside linebacker, and will make the decision more difficult when Mays returns from IR-R.
