Mason did not see the field on offense while logging 11 snaps on special teams in Monday's 22-17 loss to the Vikings.
EDGE Analysis
Mason was surprisingly not used on offense even with starter Christian McCaffrey (oblique) playing through a lingering injury suffered in last week's loss to Cleveland. The latter wound up playing 100 percent of San Francisco's offensive snaps Monday, and Elijah Mitchell received the only non-CMC carry for San Francisco's backfield. Mason was coming off of a pair of strong performances with a touchdown in each, so Monday's lack of usage killed any momentum the backup was building heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Bengals.

Mason rushed five times for 27 yards and a touchdown but wasn't targeted in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Mason took over as San Francisco's lead back after Christian McCaffrey (oblique) exited in the second half. The 24-year-old running back out of Georgia Tech gave the 49ers a 17-13 lead with an eight-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but Cleveland responded with a pair of field goals to hand the 49ers their first loss of the season. Elijah Mitchell (knee) returned from a two-game absence but had just minus-3 yards on two carries. If McCaffrey is unable to suit up against the Vikings in Week 7, Mason would likely lead San Francisco's backfield over Mitchell.

Mason rushed 10 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-10 win over the Cowboys. He failed to bring in his lone target.
EDGE Analysis
Elijah Mitchell (knee) remained sidelined for the second week in a row, affording Mason the opportunity to continue operating as the team's No. 2 backfield option. The special teams ace wound up playing 13 snaps on offense (18 percent), most of which came in the closing moments of Sunday's lopsided affair. Mason put the final nail in the Cowboys' coffin Sunday when he ripped off a 26-yard run in the fourth quarter for the 49ers' sixth and final touchdown of the contest. The 24-year-old finished as the team's leading rusher, but that had more to do with the crooked score as opposed to his role expanding. Fantasy managers should expect to see a handful of touches from Mason in Week 6 if Mitchell remains sidelined for next Sunday's tilt against Cleveland.

Mason rushed three times for 10 yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards in Sunday's 35-16 win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Mason was elevated to No. 2 on the depth chart after Elijah Mitchell injured his knee during the practice week. The former wound up playing eight snaps on offense (15 percent) in addition to his usual role on special teams. Christian McCaffrey ran for over 100 yards and scored four of the 49ers' five touchdowns Sunday, leaving little work for Mason despite his elevated role Week 4. The severity of Mitchell's knee injury is currently unknown, but Mason will fill in as the primary backup until his teammate returns to full strength.

Mason is in line to serve as the 49ers' No. 2 running back Sunday against the Cardinals with Elijah Mitchell (knee) listed as questionable but not expected to be active for the contest, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 49ers are also expected to have Tyrion Davis-Price suit up for the first time this season after he was a healthy inactive for the first three games, but he'll likely be ticketed for the No. 3 role while Mason operates as the top backup to lead back Christian McCaffrey. Though McCaffrey should be poised to dominate the snaps and touches while the game is competitive, the 49ers are pegged as two-touchdown favorites by most sportsbooks, meaning that Mason could be in store for plenty of playing time in the event the game turns into a runaway. While both McCaffrey and Mitchell have been available for the first three weeks of the season, Mason's opportunities have been limited almost exclusively to special teams, though he did get three carries late in the 30-12 win over the Giants in Week 3.

Mason (foot) was removed from the injury report Friday and will play in Sunday's opener against the Steelers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason was limited earlier in the week but has been cleared to play. He's expected to open the season as the Niners' third running back, behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell. Mason has minimal fantasy value in season-long leagues.

Mason (foot) was a limited participant at the 49ers' practice Thursday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason is dealing with a sprained foot he suffered in the team's preseason finale Aug. 25 and he has now logged back-to-back limited practices. The running back will look to increase his participation Friday in order to play Sunday in San Francisco's regular season opener against the Steelers on the road.

Mason (foot) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason emerged from the 49ers' preseason finale with a sprained foot, but his return to drills Wednesday indicates that he's making progress in his recovery effort. The 49ers backfield is paced by the do-it-all Christian McCaffrey, whose direct backup, Elijah Mitchell, will also get touches on game days as long as he's healthy. As a result, if Mason isn't ready for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Tyrion Davis-Price may be the team's third active running back in that contest.

Mason (foot) was sidelined for Thursday's practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason is considered day-to-day with a sprained foot. When healthy, he is currently slated to back up Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell in the 49ers' backfield, while Tyrion Davis-Price should be in the mix as well. His status ahead of Week 1 should become more clear next week when San Francisco releases its initial injury report.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday that Mason has a sprained foot but is considered day-to-day, Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 49ers backfield has had its share of injuries during training camp and the preseason, with Elijah Mitchell missing significant time with an adductor strain and Jeremy McNichols dealing with a hamstring issue. Now, one of the competitors for the No. 3 spot behind Christian McCaffrey and Mitchell is tending to a health concern. San Francisco likely will keep four running backs on its final 53-man roster following cut-down day Tuesday, while Mason could be sidelined in the short term with the aim to be healthy by Week 1.
