Metchie caught one of two targets for five yards in Saturday's 28-3 preseason loss to the Dolphins. He also returned one kickoff for 12 yards.
EDGE Analysis
With Tank Dell (leg) sidelined, Metchie and Noah Brown were given opportunities to showcase themselves. Brown was on the field for Houston's first two drives before Metchie entered the game in the second quarter. On the kickoff return, Metchie fielded a squib kick as an up-man, and it does not appear the Texans are considering him for a return role. That indicates Metchie needs to make the team as a wideout, where the 2022 second-round draft pick is competing with Brown, Dell and Xavier Hutchinson behind the top two receivers on the depth chart, Nico Collins and Robert Woods.

Metchie caught his only target for five yards in Thursday's 20-9 preseason-opening win over the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
Metchie returned to action after missing his rookie year while battling leukemia. The former Alabama standout caught a pass on Houston's touchdown drive to end the second quarter. While third-round wideout Tank Dell impressed with five catches for 65 yards and the aforementioned score, Metchie figures to push him for the Texans' third-receiver job behind Nico Collins and Robert Woods.

Metchie has been fielding kicks on special teams along with his work on offense during training camp, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Metchie has participated in all seven days of training camp after missing what would have been his rookie season in 2022 due to a leukemia diagnosis last summer. The wideout reports feeling "110 percent," saying he feels better now than he did in college at Alabama. Once preseason games begin, Metchie's place on the depth chart will become clearer. He currently sits in a pack, along with Noah Brown, Nathaniel Dell and Xavier Hutchinson, behind Nico Collins and Robert Woods. Houston's first preseason game takes place Thursday against New England.

Metchie practiced with the first- and second-team offenses during the first days of training camp, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Metchie, a second-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, was expected to be an immediate contributor as a rookie, but a leukemia diagnosis wiped out the entire season. His return is seen as an inspiration for the young team, and head coach DeMeco Ryans said it was an "honor to be his coach." Michael Woods and Nico Collins are expected to top the wide receiver depth chart, leaving Metchie to compete with Noah Brown, Nathaniel Dell and Xavier Hutchinson as the third wideout.

Metchie (hamstring) received medical clearance Wednesday for the start of training camp, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Metchie dealt with a hamstring injury earlier during Houston's offseason program, but he's been given a clean bill of health ahead of camp. Practice reps will be crucial for the 2022 second-round pick, who missed his entire rookie season after being diagnosed with leukemia last July. Now fully healthy, Metchie will get a chance to build chemistry with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and compete for a key role in a wide receiver corps that also houses Robert Woods, Nico Collins, Noah Brown and Nathaniel Dell.

Metchie, who sustained a strained hamstring during the initial phase of the Texans' offseason program, is on track to participate in training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
"Everything is on target," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans noted of the wideout at the close of a full-team minicamp. "I think Metchie will be good to go for training camp." The 2022 second-rounder spent his rookie season on the reserve/non-football illness list after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia last July, with Wilson noting that by all accounts, Metchie's recovery since then has progressed well. Once the 5-foot-11, 187-pounder moves past his hamstring issue and is able to take the field in training camp, Metchie is in line to compete for snaps in Houston's WR corps with Robert Woods, Nico Collins, Noah Brown and Nathaniel Dell.

Metchie is recovering from a hamstring strain and hasn't been participating in offseason practices, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
A 2022 second-round pick, Metchie spent his rookie season on the reserve/non-football illness list after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia last July. He returned healthy for the beginning of Houston's offseason program in April, and the latest report suggests he should be fine for training camp later this summer. Assuming that's the case, Metchie will compete for WR snaps with Robert Woods, Nico Collins (foot), Noah Brown and Nathaniel Dell in a passing game expected to be helmed by 2023 second overall pick C.J. Stroud.

GM Nick Caserio said Saturday that Metchie (illness) participated fully during Phase 1 of the Texans' offseason program, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite suffering a torn ACL on Dec. 4, 2021 at Alabama, Metchie was a second-round pick for Houston during the 2022 NFL Draft. There was an expectation that he'd be able to play last season, but his situation took another turn when he was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia in July, which kept him off the field entirely. Now that he's completed the initial activities of the offseason program, OTAs and mandatory minicamp are next up for Metchie in May and June before training camp begins in late July. With Brandin Cooks getting traded to the Cowboys in March, Robert Woods, Nico Collins (foot), Noah Brown and Metchie currently occupy the top spots on the team's wide receiver depth chart.

Coach DeMeco Ryans indicated that Metchie (illness) is slated to be involved with the Texans' offseason program, Drew Dougherty of the team's official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old missed all of last season after being diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia in July, but Ryans recently noted that the young wideout is "doing fine" and continues to make progress. Ryans added that for the time being, the Texans plan to "take it one day at a time" with Metchie "and see where he can grow and where he can be when the time comes. At the right time, when the season comes, we'll see where he is." During the 2021 NCAA season with Alabama, Metchie caught 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games, and the 5-foot-11, 187-pounder was subsequently selected 44th overall by Houston in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Wednesday that Metchie (illness) could be ready to participate in the offseason program, Daniel Gotera of KHOU 11 Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Metchie spent his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football illness list after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia back in July, but he looks like he may be cleared to return to football activities as early as the start of offseason workouts. The 2022 second-round pick entered the NFL recovering from an ACL tear, but his knee injury wasn't expected to be an issue for last summer's training camp.
