Free agent OT Jeff Otah is training with former Saints and Browns C LeCharles Bentley in an effort to improve his conditioning and get back in the NFL. If Otah is truly motivated to turn his career around at age 26, he certainly could help a team as a starting right tackle. He could probably even start at left tackle for some clubs. Otah is at Bentley's "O-Line Academy" in Cleveland, trying to rebuild himself. "I believe he's definitely going to be ready this season," Bentley said of Otah. "At what point in the season, I'm not sure."

The player rep for OT Jeff Otah maintains the free agent will "definitely" play again in the NFL. The Charlotte Observer confirms Otah had a setback with his knee in training camp. He plans to travel to Ohio to work out in LeCharles Bentley's O-Line Academy before attempting to sign with another NFL team. It's a positive sign for a player whose effort was often questioned in Carolina.

A team source confirmed to the Charlotte Observer that the Panthers will not retain RT Jeff Otah, despite his voided trade to the Jets. Otah will be shipped out of town, either waived or traded if Carolina finds a taker. "We tried to make a deal. Unfortunately, they didn't want it," coach Ron Rivera said. "So now we're back with Jeff. We'll see him tomorrow. (GM) Marty (Hurney) and I will sit down and we'll visit and we'll go from there."

Jeff Otah (knee, back) is reportedly "unlikely" to remain with the Panthers after his trade to the Jets was voided. The Panthers have already set the wheels in motion to turn the right tackle job over to Byron Bell. "There were (teams interested in Otah) before, so I don't know," GM Marty Hurney said, suggesting he will continue to work the phones.

Jeff Otah (knee, back) will report to Panthers camp on Wednesday after his trade to the Jets was voided. Otah will meet with team officials and trainers to determine the next step in his relationship with the organization. According to CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora, Otah could be given more time to pass a physical and conditioning test. The alternative is placing him on the camp PUP list.

Jeff Otah (knee, back) needs to pass a physical by Tuesday or his trade to the Jets will be voided. Otah, who has chronic knee issues, failed his first physical upon arriving in New York. "It's getting better," he said. "It's not 100 percent, but that's what I'm doing right now." Even if Otah does end up sticking with the Jets, this is a reminder that he can't be trusted to solve their right tackle woes.

A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that Jeff Otah (knee, back) will be sent back to the Panthers if he doesn't pass his Jets physical within a week. Otah was placed on active/PUP Wednesday after failing his initial physical. Per PFT's Darin Gantt, the Jets-Panthers trade was contingent on Otah passing a physical "in the next seven days, or else he goes back to Carolina." The Jets would then get back their conditional seventh-round pick. If Otah was returned to the Panthers, GM Marty Hurney would likely look either to trade him again, or cut him.

New Jets OT Jeff Otah failed his physical to open training camp and was placed on active/PUP. Otah is presumably still not fully healed from last year's knee injury, and he also has a bad history when it comes to his back. It's fair to wonder if he might be damaged goods. Otah will be eligible to practice when/if he gets healthy.
