He'll now head to New England, where he probably won't have much of a role on offense but may be used as a return man. Back in New Orleans, undrafted rookie Marcus Murphy is expected to return punts for the Saints.

Saunders was released by the Jets on Monday. Saunders was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of this year's draft, but has now been released just four weeks into his rookie campaign. The former Oklahoma wideout muffed a punt in both Week 2 and Week 3, which resulted in an inactive status for New York's most recent game against the Lions. In a corresponding roster move, the Jets signed third-year receiver T.J. Graham on Monday.

Saunders practiced fully Monday, the Star-Ledger reports. The report clarifies that the medical incident -- which occurred while the wideout was driving to practice on Aug. 15 -- and resulted in Saunders spending two nights in the hospital, was a seizure. Coach Rex Ryan said Monday that Saunders has now been cleared by doctors for full participation in practices and games, with the fourth-rounder thus slated to see his share of action in Thursday's preseason finale, as both a receiver and returner.

Saunders, who was hospitalized over the weekend following a single-car accident Friday, returned to the Jets' practice facility Monday, working with trainers at the start of the team's workout, the Associated Press reports. The report notes that Saunders, who experienced an unspecified "medical event" on his way to the Jets' practice facility Friday morning, will be eased back by the team, but his presence at Monday's practice is nonetheless an encouraging development for the Jets' fourth-round draft choice.

Saunders, who was hospitalized after being involved in a single-car accident Friday morning, is being monitored as a precaution, the Jets' official site reports. We'll wait further details, but the report does note that the rookie receiver will not travel with the Jets to Cincinnati, where the team faces the Bengals on Saturday.

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini said the team hopes rookie WR Jalen Saunders emerges as the primary punt returner. At only 165 pounds, it is unlikely Saunders ever develops into an offensive weapon. He was stellar as a punt returner in college, however, and could develop into a special teams' weapon for the Jets. Saunders averaged 15.4 yards per punt return and scored two touchdowns for Oklahoma last season.
