People are quick to turn away from the stars of yesteryear in favor of the "huge upside" they see blooming out of the young receivers. Is that really the right thing to do? While other players in your league are making huge reaches on the likes of Brandin Cooks and Kelvin Benjamin, in hopes they make huge leaps forward- there's so much value to be had for the guys who have already had the kinds of production people are hoping to get of those. Let's look at some of those. Editor’s Note: I[...]Keep on reading: Three Overlooked Veteran Wide Receivers: Draft Values for 2015

3 Fantasy Football Players Sending Out Warning Signals in Week 2 rotoballer.com Wed 9/17/14 7:59 PM6 Comments

This article references Aaron Dobson, Anquan Boldin, DEF, Jacoby Jones, Joe Flacco, Rob Gronkowski, SP, Steve Smith, Toby Gerhart, Tom Brady, Torrey Smith, WR and more! Players That Are Making Me NervousOriginally I didn't plan to make this a weekly column for the entire fantasy football season, but it just lends itself so well. Every fantasy football owner's worst nightmare is drafting someone on draft day, just to see them underperform and not put up nearly enough points for their teams. These are the guys I'm here to discuss, and to give you my take on why they make me nervous. Granted, almost every player that I said I was worried about after Wee[...] Keep on reading: 3 Fantasy Football Players Sending Out Warning Signals in Week 2

Feast or Famine - Week 9 fantasysharks.com Fri 11/1/13 6:00 AM1 Comment

Every week I will pick and choose certain players that will produce above (feast) or below (famine) our Fantasy Sharks Player Projections. A couple guys every week may be obvious, but some might surprise you. Feast Le'Veon Bell, RB, Pittsburgh Fantasy Sharks Projection: 14 Points The bad news: Pittsburgh's offensive line was less-than-stellar before all of the injuries. The good news: New England's defensive line is pretty bad; the front line of the league's second-worst run defense. The best news: Pittsburgh wants to run the ball with Bell. This is a great matchup and he shouldn't have any issues producing with his 15-plus carries. ******************************************************** Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seattle Fantasy Sharks Projection: 9 Points Lynch was non-factor last week because he only had eight carries. Seattle won't make that mistake again. ******************************************************** Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Fantasy Sharks Projection: 7 Points Trent Richardson is not good. Brown is averaging twice as many yards per carry this season and he received just as many touches as Richardson against Denver last week. I'm starting Brown this week if I own both running backs. ******************************************************** Famine Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Fantasy Sharks Projection: 24 Points New England's pass defense is solid. The Patriots are giving up an average of 216 passing yards per game and have more interceptions than passing touchdowns surrendered. They've had their fair share of injuries, but Pittsburgh's pass offense is nothing special. ******************************************************** Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Fantasy Sharks Projection: 17 Points Johnson and Shonn Greene are headed for a full-blown time share in Tennessee. Johnson is averaging 3.2 yards per carry and he has been getting worse as the season progresses. ******************************************************** Torrey Smith, WR, Baltimore Fantasy Sharks Projection: 17 Points Cleveland shuts down opposing team's No. 1 receivers all day long. Marlon Brown or Jacoby Jones might do alright, but Smith is in for a rough game. ******************************************************** Jeremy Kerley, WR, New York Jets Fantasy Sharks Projection: 13 Points New Orleans is sporting the fifth-best pass defense in the NFL. Kerley is unreliable to begin with and the New York Jets will attack this game with their ...

49ers embarass themselves with handling of Aldon Smith. A mere hours after 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh allowed Aldon Smith, who had been arrested for drunk driving just two days prior, to play in Week 3's game versus the Colts, 49ers president Jed York announced that Smith would be away from the team indefinitely. I guess it took a 27-7 butt-kicking by the Colts to bring the 49ers' brass to its senses. This ain't the Sweet Pea that I remember. Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones was allegedly struck in the head with a bottle while on a Ravens' party bus by a stripper named Sweet Pea. Oh, Popeye! How do you spell party? Brett Favre reportedly has arms like a blacksmith. According to Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook, Favre is in the best shape of his life and even has arms like a blacksmith. No duh! In 2010, Favre's last year in the league, he threw 11 TD passes while throwing 19 interceptions. He had the touch of a blacksmith back then. Major $5 pizza chain to put disclaimer on pizza boxes. Rebranding of the Redskins would cost the team an estimated $15 million. Given that the Dutch were able to purchase Manhattan from the Indians for $951.08 in today's money, you can see Daniel Snyder's reluctance to pay $15 million to simply change the Redskins' name. Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 3 fantasysharks.com Tue 9/17/13 6:00 AM

What a difference a few days makes! Last week at this time, we were still talking about Kenbrell Thompkins being the difference maker for the Patriots and Julian Edelman being a player to keep an eye on. A day later it was announced that New England's Danny Amendola would be out for a few games, then Edelman turned Thursday night into his night and Thompkins (and every other Patriots receiver) moved immediately into the fantasy trash can. Sure, Aaron Dobson caught a touchdown pass, but it was the Edelman show from start to finish as he was the only player that had the trust of Tom Brady. He has established himself as a fantasy giant on that team, sure to be involved even when Amendola and Rob Gronkowski return to the lineup. For this week, several wide receivers are stepping forward to find their way into this week's story. Injuries to a few starting running backs are creating fantasy chaos - and a rush to the waiver wire. We've got some royalty in the top slot, but there's something for everyone this week! Smokin' Hot WR Eddie Royal, San Diego Five touchdowns in two games is enough of a sample size to get a guy listed as the top waiver wire pickup of the week. With Danario Alexander done for the season and now Malcom Floyd expected to miss week three and possibly beyond, Royal is settling in as the slot receiver and most popular target of Philip Rivers. He had a huge week against the Eagles, three touchdowns and 90 receiving yards. The touchdown pace is unlikely to continue, but look for him to continue to put up numbers in the 5-7 catch and 75-90 yards per game range. RB James Starks, Green Bay The battle of the backups between Starks and Johnathan Franklin could not have had a more clear winner when Starks played every snap in place of the injured Eddie Lacy. As a result, Starks ran for over a hundred yards, the first time that has happened in Green Bay since Prohibition (or somewhere close to that time). At press time, there is no news on Lacy's status for week three, we expect that he will not be available and Starks will draw the start and all the load against the Bengals. The Packers have a bye in week four, so the possibility exists that Lacy will be back after that, but in the meantime, a starting running back with the potential to run for 100 yards is gold on the waiver wire. Solid Pickups WR Kendall Wright, Tennessee Though it's early in the season, Wright has moved up the depth chart and has established ...

Breaking the Huddle - Week 2 fantasysharks.com Sat 9/14/13 2:00 PM

For most of America, Saturday is a day of rest and relaxation. Some college football, perhaps we'll mow the lawn or maybe a round of golf. But somewhere in the back of our mind we are continually processing those gut wrenching decisions of who to start and who to sit. And while 90% of our starting lineup requires little thought, there are a few factors we must consider to maximize our production, along with some players to watch over the weekend. Friday's Injury Report Every lineup decision starts by examining the Friday Injury Report. This is the most accurate depiction of player's participation in the upcoming game. Sure we are still early in the season, meaning the list is short. However, there are a handful of big names we must account for when cementing our week two lineups. Any player listed as Probable with full participation in practice is a near lineup lock. Our current list includes; Jamaal Charles, Wes Welker, Daryl Richardson and Owen Daniels. Start them with confidence...... Watching Dez Bryant's reaction after last week's injury I thought he was headed straight to the IR. He was a full participant on Friday and appears ready roll. Start him....... As we know, "out" means out. And doubtful also means out (which never made any sense to me but neither do Thursday night games). Players who will not take the field this weekend include; Le'Veon Bell, Jacoby Jones and Vick Ballard (Ballard was placed on season ending IR)....... When factoring injuries, the players who give us the most trouble are "Game Time Decisions", or GTD. Players that are either limited in Friday's practice sessions, and/or are listed as questionable on the Injury Report are considered 50-50 to take the field (see Inactive Report). This week's GTD are Roddy White, Jermicheal Finley, Cecil Shorts, Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones and Kai Forbath. Each are startable should they put on pads, just make sure you have an emergency plan B....... Also note, with the two Falcons' WRs iffy, Matt Ryan goes on the decline while Tony G, Harry Douglas and S-Jax receive a small uptick in value. Inactive report Of course, injuries aren't the only reason a player doesn't suit up. Other issues include; missing a team meeting, being arrested for doing something foolish or injured during pregame warmups (or pulled a Kevin Kolb and gets injured stepping out of the shower). Even if your entire team has skirted injury during the week, we must always check the Inactive Report for every player on...

The Fire Sale - Week 2 fantasysharks.com Tue 9/10/13 9:06 AM8 Comments

Ah, Week 1 is in the books. You know what I took away from Week 1? I'm firing on all cylinders this year. Last season I was kind of dealing with health issues in the summer and it was screwing with my fantasy radar but not this year. I'm really on top of my game in 2013. I started out blasting in all of my leagues, which was a pleasant turnaround from last year when I went 0-5 in the first week. So I'm feeling pretty good. We'll see how long that lasts. Usually when I'm in a good mood bad things tend to happen and it doesn't last very long. Oh well, if you're getting your car serviced or have 20 minutes of your life you don't want back, I have some fantasy advice for you. Now on with The Fire Sale... Going Up Joique Bell , Lions -- Bell is a player I snatched up in my leagues last year and he's someone who keeps getting better every time I see him. I had Reggie Bush rated very high in PPR formats and you saw why in Week 1. Bush will be an absolute machine in the Lions' offense if he stays healthy. However, if something happens to Bush (he's already dealing with a couple of injuries), they have another fantasy stud waiting in the wings with Bell. This kid can really play. The best part about Bell is he has fantasy value even if Bush is healthy. Bell scored two short touchdowns on Sunday and caught five passes for 67 yards. Heck, that's a much better fantasy day than most of the running backs we drafted in the first three rounds. I have to hand it to ASL's The Machine software system I'm trying out this year. They've had Bell highly rated all summer long and had him as the top free agent in my leagues where he wasn't drafted. I liked Bell last year and as a handcuff to Bush this season but was afraid his overall fantasy value would be limited in 2013. I was wrong. Bell should be one of your top waiver wire priorities this week. He has fantasy value regardless of Bush's status in PPR formats. Then if Bush is ever sidelined for an extended period of time, owners will have a potential PPR machine on their hands with Bell. Think about it, this guy caught 52 balls last year while splitting time. Imagine what Bell can do if he got most of the touches? If you need a running back off the waiver wire, Bell should be at the top of your wish list. Marlon Brown , WR Baltimore -- I like the cut of this guy's jib. I still have no idea what the heck that means but I like to throw out that phrase whenever possible. It came to me when ...

The Best of the Undrafted - AFC Edition fantasysharks.com Tue 7/23/13 9:06 AM

I know, I know. The season and your league haven't even started yet, so how can there be "waiver wire wonders" to talk about? Technically there are not, yet. I stress the word "yet," however, because there will be many players not drafted in your league this year. They will be on the waiver wires immediately and sport tremendous upside that you should keep your eye on. Some people may call these deep, deep sleepers, but, to me, a sleeper is somebody who is drafted real late and gives great value by playing above their draft number. I'm talking about the undrafted. Every year players go undrafted and put up amazing numbers. Last year, in many leagues, players such as Alfred Morris, Russell Wilson, and Colin Kaepernick went undrafted. This year will be no different; players poised to have great years will be available after draft day. So in two installments (AFC and NFC), we will discuss those players that you should keep your eye on once the season starts. You never know, this just may be their time to step up, and hopefully you will be there to snatch them off the wire. Using a 12-team points-per-reception league (15 round draft - one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one flex, one tight end) as a model, we will look at a player from each team in the AFC today. AFC NORTH Baltimore Ravens -- WR Jacoby Jones -- According to current average draft position, Jones is coming off the board as the 101st receiver putting him well into the range of the undrafted in most leagues. He was never quite able to turn the corner in Houston, and in Baltimore things started slow but finished great last year as he made an incredible playoff run. Jones is big and tall; he finished the year on fire and will be working across from Torrey Smith. Couple that with the loss of Anquan Boldin and a quarterback (Joe Flacco) out to prove himself worthy of his new contract and you have the potential for a valuable waiver wire pickup. Cincinnati Bengals -- WR Mohamed Sanu -- The Bengals' lineup looks to be improved all the way around. With opposing defenses concentrating on A.J. Green, Sanu should see plenty of targets come his way. He had taken over as the WR2 last year just before a stress fracture in his foot sidelined him. It is reported that he is back to 100 percent, and, at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, he is going to make a great second target for Andy Dalton this season. Cleveland Browns -- QB Brandon Weeden -- First of all let's be honest, there are ...

2012 Fantasy Football Super Bowl Rankings: Wide Receivers brunoboys.net Wed 1/30/13 1:56 PM

The Bro Bowl, Harbowl or simply the Super Bowl is almost here! It was a long road for both the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers to get to this point and they certainly couldn't have done it without their respective wide receivers. Jacoby Jones caught a huge pass that led to a Baltimore Ravens victory against the Denver Broncos. Spectacular playoff performances from Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree have helped lead their teams to the final game. Which receiver will come through with a big playoff performance? Which receiver will potentially end up with the Super Bowl MVP trophy? These questions will be answered on Sunday, but the matchup between the Ravens and 49ers should provide enough fireworks to cap off another terrific NFL season.

2012 Fantasy Football Championship Rankings: Wide Receivers brunoboys.net Fri 1/18/13 1:28 AM

And then there were four. It's safe to say that the Division Championship round did not go as many expected. The surging Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens have new life. Many wide receivers were instrumental in their teams victory, none more so than Jacoby Jones, who caught the game tying catch that eventually allowed the Ravens to win in double overtime. It will be interesting to see, which wide receivers will make the big catches in the clutch and which ones will shy away from the big stage in the up coming AFC Championship and NFC Championship games.
