While Asiata will likely start at running back Sunday against the Saints, offensive coordinator Norv Turner says he'll stick with the hot hand between Asiata and Jerick McKinnon, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Asiata started at running back last week with Adrian Peterson deactivated and got the bulk of playing time (47 snaps to McKinnon's 23 snaps). However, with more advanced notice that Peterson will be out this week and likely most of the season, the Vikings may move to a committee system at running back or at least give McKinnon a larger role.
It's tough to bench Ball due to potential, but I'd have a tough time going with any RB against Seattle at home. Especially after losing to the Chargers the prior week. Asiata is the play here out of those two... this week.
Without Adrian Peterson the Vikings are hurting, hence the temporary decision to start Peterson earlier this week before changing course once again. None of the role players for the Vikings are guaranteed fantasy producers right now until we see how things shake out in reality.
Norv Turner has a unique way of taking nobody and turning them into somebody. Just gotta see which nobody becomes somebody the next few weeks.
