The Vikings announced Josh Freeman will start Monday night's Week 7 game against the Giants.
The plan all along was for the Vikings to settle on a starter by Wednesday so that whoever it ended up being could gain some chemistry with the first-team offense during the practice week. It would have been a major surprise had Freeman not been named the starter. Christian Ponder will be the No. 2, while Matt Cassel will be inactive or possibly even released. Freeman will be a QB2 this week. His insertion into the lineup is a boost to everyone on offense.
Playing against the Giants is like playing in the preseason. With the no defense giants, Freeman should be able to show why they think of him so highly. Remember, this is not Seattle's defense hence why they could start him on such a short notice.
Just acquired Freeman in a trade and he is going to lead me to my 2nd win of the season. Kind of like he will be leading the Vikings to their 2nd win of the season too!
He has the weapons there to make him successful. With defenses gearing up to stop AP, the field should be wide open and lots of one on one coverage. That's any QB's dream.
Don't forget he was doing a lot better before Martin arrive and the coaching change. You have to realize, it's the NFL and coaches and GM wants to see their own guys on the field. Not a guy who was drafted by the previous regime. This is his last stop so hopefully he step ups to the task. Martin is average at best, I wouldn't give him to much credit. He hasn't done much this year since teams has tapes on him now. It's only going to get worst for Martin from here on out.
It's more than just the rb he had, look at the oLine he's workin behind now there not all that bad! Good protection, talented rb, and some average Recievers I hope he can succeed, I think he will fantasy-wise
My perfect example is Alex Smith and Kaep. Alex Smith with the O-line and the running game makes him look better then he really is. He is not ask to win ball games but rather manage them. Run the play and avoid costly mistakes and this year that has proven a success factor for him and KC.
Kaep on the other had, without his WRs has been disappointing. After (3) games, they have shut him down and gone back to the running game and have been winning since Gore got on the coaches' face after game 3. Football is a team sport, teams have strength and weakness base on how they are build. Vikes are pretty good on both side of the line of scrimmage. Like jgraz said, that alone should help Freeman.
