The NFL and the NFL players' union did not reach an agreement that would modify the sport's drug policies and potentially could result in a reduced or overturned suspension for Gordon in time to impact his suspension for Week 1, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. However, multiple sources told the Plain Dealer that an agreement between the NFL and NFL players union that would modify the sport's drug policies could be reached next week. The new drug agreement would reportedly include testing for HGH and raise the threshold for what would constitute a positive test for marijuana. Gordon's positive test for marijuana was reportedly below the new threshold, thus creating the possibility that his suspension could be reduced. It was a real long shot that Gordon would be reinstated before Week 1, but the bigger question is whether the timing of an agreement after Week 1 would impact a potential reduction of Gordon's suspension. Various theories about the timing of Gordon's positive test for marijuana and whether the agreement would cover players suspended before the start of the season leave the impact of a new agreement in doubt. Plus the new agreement may add mandatory suspensions for DUI arrests, and Gordon had a DWI in November. It's also not clear that the two sides will agree to modify prior suspensions. Despite all the hurdles, the Plain Dealer says it's possible Gordon could return to the field as early as next week - but many hurdles remain and the odds of it happening still seem fairly low.

Then they should increase Ray Rice's suspension as well.

BlackOmega Sun 9/7/14 12:16 AM

in the legal world you can always retroactively reduce a sentence but it's essentially impossible to increase one based on a rule/law changed after the fact, if they tried Ray could sue the league {and he would win}

Yeah I know, just think it's a stupid. At this point I don't care what they do if the result is we stop talking about this crap.

After denver beat new england last yeat playoffs manning said he wanted a cold miller lite. beer causes more accidents and violence than weed .but josh gordon cant play football .miller lite sales skyrocketed last superbowl.manning had one of the best statistical seasons sodid josh gordon .manning gets a chance to do it again .josh gordon is saling cars

C216 Sun 9/7/14 12:35 AM

If manning had the same charges against him would he be suspended 16 games.theres some prejudice here . Thats why after they suspended gordon Thennn they suspended welker and irsay to diminish any race look

C216 Sun 9/7/14 12:36 AM

I was so glad denver got blew out in the bowl

C216 Sun 9/7/14 12:39 AM

Roger goodell should be suspended he admitted he got it wrong

RP65 Sun 9/7/14 12:39 AM

Wow, did you really bring in the race card??? I think it is you that is racist and prejudice for even making that comment. I'm not a Manning fan but that was a ridiculous statement.

Riverwalker Sun 9/7/14 1:20 AM

CMACK216: You are ignorant.

Laying race blame where there is none only serves actual racists, when it is so blatantly obviously not a race issue it only muddies the water and when actual racism could be present, people might ignore the claims due to the little boy calling wolf...

AmyDustin Sun 9/7/14 1:30 AM

How come we didn't hear a thing about Wes Welker's positive drug test, until after he lost his appeal?

szakattack Sun 9/7/14 1:42 AM

CMACK the fact that you posted 4 comments in a row instead of one large one tells me you don't have the intelligence to come to a logical conclusion on this issue. In my opinion Gordon should face a suspension for the use of marijuana, which is still illegal even though it isn't a PED or really very dangerous. A full season seems a bit extreme though, maybe he should get the 2 games Rice got. Also if you fail a drug test you get suspended no matter what your skin color is, there's no race issue here. And AmyDustin we aren't supposed to hear about it until after the appeal, it just gets leaked more often than not. The same thing happened to Ryan Braun in baseball.

DoubleDaggers Sun 9/7/14 1:49 AM

honestly,it is not about race,so bury that hatchet and take a hard look at the real issues of drug abuse and behavioral disorders, and typographical, interpretive and spelling errors

[Deleted User] Sun 9/7/14 2:16 AM

The rules were in place and the length of suspension is set In stone for drugs for a first second third etc. that is it. Ray rice got off extremely lightly but there were no set suspensions for domestic assault.

CMACK did rice get off lightly because he was white? Oh wait a minute.....

budsal Sun 9/7/14 3:53 AM

Can't wait to see how long bell and blunt, errr, I mean Blount get. They shouldn't even test for weed. And I thought this was a FF site. Can't believe I wasted time reading this crappolla!

Ted_Rohrer Sun 9/7/14 7:38 AM

I don't see how Blount and Bell won't even be punished yet Gordon misses a whole season, I hope they lower his suspension. I'd advise everyone to just pick him up off waivers and put him on the IR in case his suspension is cut back at all, that's what I did in both of my money leagues. Also, CMACK, when people like you pull the race card, it makes you look stupid since it wasn't even applicable to the situation, and also because "the only way to get rid of racism is to stop talking about it" (Morgan Freeman). When people that are "affected by Racism" pull the race card when nobody mentions racism it can only lead to racism...idiot. As Budsal said, this is a fantasy football website, so please don't do that again because now we have all wasted time reading comments like CMACK, ronplourde, river walker's, and my own.

C216 Sun 9/7/14 7:54 AM

Lol I couldnt wait to hear youguys response .The question was would the punisment be the same if it was manning? And I wont respond to the name calling anybody is tough in a safe place

Awekingster Sun 9/7/14 8:00 AM

yes it would be the same punishment its already established that race isnt a issue on their decision of suspending players.

C216 Sun 9/7/14 8:03 AM

O yea and Eli manning Sucks he should not be starting .broke the interception record .But RG3 was the topic of that division .

C216 Sun 9/7/14 8:04 AM

U dont believe that awekingster

Awekingster Sun 9/7/14 8:19 AM

seems u have a grudge on the mannings? eli already gets enough hate and bashing for interception and if elite or not. also eli doesnt bring all that bs attention to himself or the team like rg3 did. Thats why RG3 got talked more cause all he did was talk useless crap the entire off season and last season and didnt show up at all. also a qb doesnt suck because he broke a interception record shows how much you dont watch other teams since eli has had other bad seasons and has comeback to play solid.

Awekingster Sun 9/7/14 8:20 AM

stop trying to pull some stupid racist crap card where there isnt one and just watch the game. Josh gordon deserves what he is getting and i hope it is a year suspension so it might get him set straight and stop getting into trouble all the time.

C216 Sun 9/7/14 8:49 AM

Ok im done fa now . But im from cleveland (wiping my tears as I speak) And we need that guy

C216 Sun 9/7/14 8:49 AM

szakattack Sun 9/7/14 9:26 AM

Awekingster Sun 9/7/14 9:29 AM

yikes no wodner haha man im sorry for the loss, when he can get his head together he wont get into these problems hopefully browns can get some new wr who cna play big and show up.

Rory-Wade Mon 9/8/14 2:33 PM

So now we know why they were not negotiating it down... NFL already knew the suspension would go away.

C216 Mon 9/8/14 4:09 PM

Lol

budsal Mon 9/8/14 4:36 PM

Hurns looks good.
