Rice won't be allowed to sign with NFL or CFL squads during his indefinite suspension, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports. Those organizations in need of running back help must look elsewhere, after an incriminating video of Rice emerged Monday. As for his previous employer, the Ravens will turn to Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett, and Lorenzo Taliaferro out of the backfield.

How can the NFL keep him from signing in the CFL?

HEADSHOT9T6 Mon 9/8/14 7:39 PM

good question they shouldn't be able to considering its a different country lol but maybe the NFL has ties in with CFL

I was gonna say it is in his contract but hey, he doesn't have a contract now. On the release, I say that's a bunch of B.S. I, in no way condone his actions, but the court had that video, everybody saw that video(if they say they didn't, they are lying) and he has received his punishment from both the courts and the NFL. Where do they get off now trying to change it? I say he prolly has a good case.

The Ravens trying to cover their big purple asses now!

Well just saw the elevator video for the first time... he's cut lol, don't need an anchor wasting space on the roster

The CFL has an agreement with the NFL that they will sign or allow to play any player suspended by the NFL

CulverCityCosmo Mon 9/8/14 9:57 PM

I don't believe that's true. Gordon can't play in the CFL because he is under contract with the Browns. Now, since Rice has been released, he should be able to sign with the CFL, like Ricky Williams did in 2006 when he was suspended.

It really doesn't matter...unless you guys play FF in the CFL too. :)

lol...true.

The CFL doesn't want him. It has nothing to do with NFL.

Still have to wonder if this suspension will hold up given he's already been punished for this.

And the fact that Goodell just made it 6 games for first offense and lifetime ban 2nd time. How does it go from 6 games to indefinite? I'm not a fan of Rice and by no means condone what he did, but the commish doesn't seem to have a handle on the situation.

Neema Tue 9/9/14 9:07 PM

The NFL didn't choose to ban Rice from the CFL. The CFL did it of it's own volition, with the CFL commissioner making the decision. See:

We should have the CFL commissioner replace Goodell.

The decision by the NFL to oversee everything its players are involved with is akin to stepping into a pond of tar. These players are not perfect citizens, and there are too many issues out there to police. This should be handled legally, although Rice's fiancée/wife NEVER filed charges against him. Otherwise, he would be in jail, not just suspended. Seeing the second video confirmed what everyone thought when they saw the first one.

The larger problem is domestic violence. This doesn't occur with NFL players only but in society. As any law enforcement officer. Keep in mind that the NFL has a security force with exceptional law enforcement experience. They know what happened, and have probably seen this before.

Ray rice will probably sign with the arena football league and dominate until his suspension is over with, then he will play in the NFL

The NFL owns 49% of the arena league. He can't go there either.
