Frey was released by the Bears on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Frey was promoted to the Bears' 53-man roster for their past three games, but will now hope to land on Chicago's practice squad once again following his release Wednesday. Him being cut comes in anticipation of fellow cornerback Sherrick McManis (quadriceps) returning for this weekend's game versus the Falcons.

Frey had six tackles and forced a fumble in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
Working as the Bears' nickelback with Kyle Fuller elevated to a starting role, Frey turned in his best showing of the season. However, given his relatively low snap count most weeks, it will be difficult to turn in this kind of production on a consistent basis.

Frey (hamstring) was waived by the Bears on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Frey would have been no better than the Bears' sixth cornerback even had he been healthy throughout training camp, so cutting him was an easy decision for the team after he battled a hamstring injury over the last couple of weeks. He served as the team's primary nickel back last season, accumulating 47 tackles while suiting up in 16 games. At 23 years old, he's still young enough to warrant a look from another team.

ESPN Chicago considers Isaiah Frey the most likely candidate to win the Bears' No. 5 cornerback job.
Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, and Kyle Fuller are locked in as the Bears' top three corners. Kelvin Hayden missed all of 2013 to injury, but re-signed in February and is expected to make the final roster. Frey appeared in 16 games and made six starts last season, but graded out negatively in coverage. He'll likely need to hold off special teams star Sherrick McManis and UDFA Al Louis-Jean for Chicago's final cornerback spot.

Second-year CB Isaiah Frey is the Bears' leading in-house candidate to replace Kelvin Hayden (hamstring surgery) at slot corner.
The Bears are serious about Frey, who's been "one of the most impressive players" in camp. "I think Isaiah has got to come out and continue to do what he's doing, make plays," coach Marc Trestman said. "He's certainly in the competition right now to be that guy." Frey was a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft.

Bears agreed to terms with sixth-round CB Isaiah Frey on a four-year contract.
Frey elevated his stock by running in the 4.4s at his Pro Day, and possesses good size (5'11/190) and physicality for a zone corner. He'll likely be eased in on special teams, but could emerge as a sub-package contributor by 2013.
