The Raiders placed Crowell (Achilles) on injured reserve Friday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
This news seemed inevitable after word surfaced that Crowell suffered a torn Achilles while working out Monday. The veteran tailback was considered an option to take over the starting role for the Raiders this season, though he was slated to be in competition with first-round pick Josh Jacobs. Jacobs should now be viewed as the top candidate to start in the backfield, though the Raiders also sport the likes of Jalen Richard, Doug Martin, DeAndre Washington and Chris Warren on the roster and it wouldn't be surprising if the team adds another veteran. Crowell, who was on a one-year contract, will aim to be healthy for the 2020 season either in Oakland or elsewhere.

Crowell suffered a torn Achilles while working out Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. He's scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery next week.
EDGE Analysis
Viewed as a potential Marshawn Lynch replacement after inking a one-year deal with Oakland in March, Crowell saw any tenuous hold he might have had on the Raiders' top backfield job take a significant hit last week, when the team nabbed Alabama product Josh Jacobs in the first round of the draft. Crowell's injury now leaves Jacobs as the clear top candidate for carries, though the Raiders will likely add another veteran to their backfield before Week 1. The 26-year-old Crowell should at least have time to get healthy before the 2020 offseason, at which point he may need to find a new team as a free agent.

Crowell is facing serious competition in the Oakland backfield after the team used the No. 24 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on Josh Jacobs, Josh Dubow of The Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given his draft status and well-rounded skill set, Jacobs instantly becomes the favorite for the Week 1 start, while Jalen Richard remans the best bet to handle obvious passing situations. Crowell, on the other hand, may need to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster, as his one-year contract contains only $300,000 guaranteed, per overthecap.com. The 26-year-old had a career-high mark of 4.8 yards per carry last season with the Jets, but he did most of his damage in three games and was otherwise ineffective before a toe injury forced him to injured reserve Dec. 14. He does at least seem to be healthy for the offseason program, where he'll battle with DeAndre Washington, Chris Warren and a few other players for one or two roster spots.

Crowell has signed a one-year deal with the Raiders worth up to $2.5 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
With veteran backs Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin still unsigned at this stage, Crowell fills a pressing void in the Oakland backfield. The 5-foot-11, 225-pounder logged 143 carries for 685 yards and six TDs in 13 games with the Jets last season, adding 21 catches for 152 yards. Crowell now figures to slot in as the Raiders' top early-down back, with Jalen Richard slated to continue to see plenty of change-f-pace work. DeAndre Washington remains on hand in a reserve capacity, while Chris Warren and James Butler round out the team's RB depth chart as the NFL Draft approaches.

Crowell is scheduled to visit the Raiders on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Crowell was released by the Jets at the beginning of the league year despite matching a career-high mark of 4.8 yards per carry during his lone season in New York. He essentially had three big games and 10 quiet ones, then missed the final three weeks of the season with a foot injury. Crowell would be a competent replacement for Marshawn Lynch on early downs, though it isn't quite clear Lynch won't return.

Crowell was released by the Jets on Thursday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Crowell was already a candidate to be released before the Jets brought in Le'Veon Bell due to concerns of Crowell being a poor cultural fit with the organization, according to Bo Wulf of the Athletic, and the superstar's insertion may have made management's decision to cut Crowell even easier. While the Jets will now move forward with Bell and Eli McGuire atop the depth chart, Crowell will have to search for a new home in the wake of a three-year stretch in which the Alabama State product averaged a pretty 4.6 yards per carry while playing on depressing Jets and Browns teams.

The Jets may move on from Crowell (toe) during the offseason,
Matt Stypulkoski of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Signed to a three-year, $12 million contract last offseason, Crowell finished his first year in New York with 4.8 yards per carry, but he was hindered by injuries for the first time in his NFL career and did most of his damage in just three or four games. His memorable 219-yard performance in Week 5 was followed by six consecutive games with less than 50 rushing yards, and he eventually finished out the season on injured reserve with a toe injury. The Jets may decide to move in a different direction even if they pass on adding a big-name running back like Le'Veon Bell or Tevin Coleman. The team has more than enough cap space to make a run at signing Bell, but it might not be the best use of resources given the long list of weaknesses throughout the roster.

Crowell (toe) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Crowell was already ruled out for Saturday's game against the Texans -- marking the first absence of his NFL career -- but will now miss the final three games of the season. The 25-year-old will finish 2018 with 143 carries for 685 yards (4.8 YPC) and two touchdowns while adding 21 receptions for 152 yards. Elijah McGuire should be first in line for backfield duties with Trenton Cannon also in the mix, though Cannon is questionable with a toe injury for Saturday's game.

Crowell (toe) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Texans, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Crowell unavailable this weekend, some combo of Elijah McGuire (ankle) and/or Trenton Cannon will handle the team's Week 15 backfield duties, with McGuire's status worth monitoring, given that he's officially listed as questionable by the Jets.

Crowell (foot) didn't practice Wednesday, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Crowell's status for Saturday's game against the Texans thus remains cloudy, but fortunately for the Jets, both Elijah McGuire (ankle) and Trenton Cannon (toe) returned to practice Wednesday after being listed as non-participants Tuesday. Added clarity with regard to the team's Week 15 backfield situation should arrive after Thursday's practice, the team's last session in advance of Saturday's tilt.
