The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac confirms that "it's about money" with free agent OT Flozell Adams not joining the Steelers this season. Adams was released after refusing to take a paycut on his scheduled $5 million salary. The Steelers have moved rookie Marcus Gilbert into the starting lineup, but both tackle figure to remain an issue all season long.

Steelers released OT Flozell Adams. Adams refused to take a pay cut on his $5 million salary to become a backup, so he's gone. Even though Adams is 36 years old, it's a risky move as they now appear to be putting all their eggs in Jonathan Scott's basket. Scott, an average lineman at best, will now be protecting Ben Roethlisberger's blind side.

Flozell Adams will reportedly have to accept a paycut to return to the Steelers. As we suspected. Adams simply isn't worthy of a $5 million salary, so he'd have to cut that in half to return. Adams' agent indicated that he'd only be willing to stay in Pittsburgh as a starter, which may not be guaranteed. The Steelers also hope to bring back free agent OT Jonathan Scott, presumably in a reserve role.
