Sims was released by the Rams on Thursday, Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rams shed a pair of veteran defensive ends Thursday by trading William Hayes and releasing Sims. According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News, part of the reasoning behind those moves is that the Rams are switching from a 4-3 front to a 3-4 look under new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Sims played 535 defensive snaps in 2016 but only registered 2.5 sacks from the right defensive end spot.

Sims (concussion) will be active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Rams' insider Myles Simmons reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sims was forced out of the Rams' Week 10 contest against the Jets due to a possible concussion, but he's since been able to clear through the league's protocol and will be good to go in Week 11.

Sims (concussion) will not return to Sunday's contest against the Jets, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Sims is still being evaluated for a possible concussion, so he won't be able to return to game action until Week 11 against the Dolphins if he's cleared. Ethan Westbrooks figures to see an expanded role at defensive end in Sims' absence.

Sims is being evaluated for a concussion, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reports.

Sims took a blow to the head in the second quarter of Sunday's game. Should he not be able to return, expect Ethan Westbrooks to see additional snaps at defensive end for the Rams.

Sims recorded a sack and three solo tackles during Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
Sims played just 26 of 64 (41 percent) of the Rams' defensive snaps, and he'll likely continue to see fewer opportunities with Robert Quinn receiving an increase in playing time following his shoulder injury. Sims' three starts this season all came with Quinn inactive or limited, after all. It's likely best to view Sims' breakout game as more of a blip on the radar than a sign of things to come.

Sims has signed a three-year, $10 million deal to remain with the Rams, NFL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After having recorded 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 13 games (including nine starts) for the Rams in 2015, Sims is not much of an IDP factor, but he does provide the team with valuable depth at defensive end in the wake of the departure of Chris Long.

Sims (knee) will play in Sunday's regular season opener against the Vikings, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Sims entered Sunday's contest as questionable due to a knee issue, but after participating in Friday's practice, albeit in a limited capacity, Sims will suit up in Week 1. As he did last season, Sims figures to backup premier pass-rusher Robert Quinn at defensive end this year. Sims posted 27 tackles and two sacks during the 2013 campaign.

Sims (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against Minnesota, St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jim Thomas reports. Sims was a limited practice participant Friday, so he should have a decent chance to play Sunday, but the arrival of first-round pick Aaron Donald on the defensive line makes Sims' presence less important than it was a year ago.

Rams signed DE Eugene Sims to a two-year extension through 2015. Sims, 27, recorded 20 tackles and three sacks off the bench in 2012, adding one interception and starting two games. He's a long (6-foot-6, 265) and versatile pass rusher whom the Rams are high on as a rotational end. Sims was previously signed through only 2013 at a base salary cost of $1,201,021.

Rams DE Eugene Sims' 2013 base salary increased from $575,000 to $1,201,021 after he hit escalators in his rookie deal. Sims started two games in 2012, and he's appeared in 38 of a possible 48 games over his first three seasons. In 2012, Sims set career-highs with 20 tackles, three sacks, and one interception. If impending free agent DE William Hayes isn't re-signed, Sims could see more snaps in 2013.
