Haskins completed eight of 13 passes for 54 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for four yards during the Steelers' 16-3 preseason win over the Cowboys in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
EDGE Analysis
The 2019 15th overall pick officially began his journey toward what he and the Steelers hope is a career revival by getting an extended opportunity to man the offense beginning late in the first half. Haskins averaged a modest 4.2 yards per attempt, but unlike the player he's battling for the No. 2 quarterback job, Mason Rudolph, he did not commit any turnovers. The competition between the two players figures to run through the balance of preseason, and Haskins may eventually get a chance to work with multiple first-team wideouts in at least one preseason game, as was the case with Rudolph on Thursday.

Haskins is expected to finish the first half in Thursday night's Hall of Fame game against Dallas, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Mason Rudolph will start Thursday's preseason opener, Haskins should still receive ample playing time before Joshua Dobbs enters the contest to finish the second half. Haskins has taken plenty of snaps across the first several days of training camp and has drawn praise from coach Mike Tomlin. "He's grown by leaps and bounds," Tomlin said. "He's done a good job of communicating with players and coaches and gaining a rapport with the receivers, trying to do the things we want him to do." Since the Steelers figure to use Ben Roethlisberger sparingly in the preseason ahead of his age-39 campaign, Haskins should have plenty of chances to compete with Rudolph and Dobbs for the No. 2 job at quarterback.

Haskins took a lot of snaps during Friday's practice, with coach Mike Tomlin explaining that he wanted to allot more work to players that will have significant roles in the Hall of Fame Game against Dallas on Aug. 5, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It seems a little early to start preparing for a preseason game, but Tomlin apparently disagrees, or else is using it as a convenient excuse for limiting Ben Roethlisberger's workload at Friday's practice. Regardless, Haskins apparently has recovered from the facial injury he suffered this summer, and he should see a good number of snaps in the Hall of Fame Game, competing with Mason Rudolph and Joshua Dobbs for the backup QB job in Pittsburgh.

Haskins suffered a facial injury in early July when he was allegedly assaulted by his wife at a Las Vegas hotel, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Haskins' wife faces a domestic violence charge following the July 3 incident that led to the quarterback heading to the hospital due to a split upper lip and other injuries to his mouth that required dental work. The Steelers said Thursday that they are aware of the situation but didn't offer a comment. Haskins signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh in January, and it's not yet clear whether his injuries will impact his availability for the start of training camp.

Haskins signed a contract with the Steelers on Thursday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
This represents a fresh start for the 2019 first-rounder, who was released by the Washington Football Team this past December. With the signing of Haskins, Pryor notes that the Steelers "signal they're focusing on a future without Ben Roethlisberger -- either this year or soon after." The team's long-time QB has one year left on his deal, but his 2021 status has yet to be cemented. With Josh Dobbs set to become a free agent this offseason, Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph and Haskins are the signal-callers Pittsburgh currently has under contract for next season.

The Steelers are reportedly poised to sign Haskins, according to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com.
EDGE Analysis
Per the report, the 2019 first-rounder, who was let go by Washington in December, is meeting with Pittsburgh's coaches, and "if all goes well, a deal will be hammered out." The team currently has Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph under contract for the 2021 campaign, and adding Haskins to the mix would give the Steelers a player with some upside to develop behind the 38-year-old Roethlisberger, who's tentatively expected back next season.

Haskins will visit the Panthers on Monday, independent NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports.
EDGE Analysis
Haskins was cut loose by Washington after playing the past two seasons with the team. The exploratory visit could potentially turn into a signing for the quarterback, who completed 60.1 percent of his 444 passes for 2,804 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions during his time in Washington.

Haskins passed through waivers unclaimed Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Haskins had a tumultuous first two seasons as a professional, much of it self-inflicted. In his 16-game sample on the field with Washington -- including 13 starts -- he completed 60.1 percent of his 444 passes for 2,804 yards (6.3 YPA), 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Haskins also didn't contribute much on the ground (40 carries for 147 yards and one TD) and lost five of his 12 fumbles. While he's unlikely to get a chance with another NFL team so late in the season, some organizations have already shown interest in the 23-year-old signal-caller, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Football Team waived Haskins on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The writing seemed to be on the wall after Haskins' poor performance during Sunday's loss to the Panthers (154 passing yards, three turnovers) led to his being demoted to the No. 3 role for a second time this season, but it's nonetheless surprising to see a first-round pick receive such a short tenure. Just 20 months ago, Washington selected the Ohio State product 15th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. Haskins has started 16 games in his career, a sample size equivalent to a full season. In that span, he has just 2,804 passing yards, a 60 percent completion rate, 12 touchdowns versus 14 interceptions and 6.3 yards per attempt. Any team that claims Haskins off waivers would inherit his fully-guaranteed $4.3 million salary over the next two years.

Coach Ron Rivera said Monday that Taylor Heinicke, rather than Haskins, would start Week 17 if Alex Smith (calf) remains sidelined, Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rivera pulled Haskins during Washington's final two drives of last Sunday's loss to Carolina, at which point the 2019 first-round pick had three turnovers, no touchdowns and only 154 passing yards. Heinicke managed to spark a bit of life into the Football Team's offense in limited action, throwing for 137 yards and a touchdown while avoiding any interceptions. A combination of off-field issues and lackluster play appears to have lost Haskins the trust of his coaching staff, and it seems unlikely he sees the field again this season.
