Carter was signed to the Colts' practice squad on Sunday, a day after the Colts released him, Ian Rapoport reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Colts kept five wide-receivers on the 53-man roster, including T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson, Donte Moncrief, Griff Whalen, and Phillip Dorsett. Carter offers more depth for the Colts' receiving corp, if any injuries should arise during the season.

Carter was released by the Colts on Saturday, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carter signed with the Colts back in February, before the team acquired Andre Johnson and Phillip Dorsett. Had he known that the depth chart was going to get such a boost, Carter likely would have chosen one of the other teams that was interested in him. He'll now look to catch on with one of those teams, and he might even get a 53-man roster spot within the next few days.

Carter caught five passes (eight targets) for 85 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Bengals.
EDGE Analysis
The solid showing, highlighted by an impressive 42-yard catch-and-run, helped Carter's bid to stick on the final roster. He'll still be no higher than fifth on the depth chart to start the season, though it's worth noting that both T.Y. Hilton (concussion) and Phillip Dorsett (knee) are banged up.

Carter had three receptions for 25 yards on seven targets in Saturday's preseason win over St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
While Carter was the star of training camp, he's been unimpressive in preseason games. He got to play with Andrew Luck, but the two failed to hook up on a fade route in the end zone. Carter hasn't done enough in the preseason to carve out any kind of role on offense and it's not a lock he'll make the final roster.

Carter will likely battle for the fifth or sixth wide receiver role this summer with the Colts drafting wide receiver Phillip Dorsett in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, the Indianapolis Star reports. Several teams were interested in signing Carter after a successful season in the CFL but he chose the Colts with Andrew Luck at quarterback. However, he may regret that decision as it's possible he won't even make the roster with Indy drafting a receiver in the first round and signing Andre Johnson in free agency.
