The Kansas City Star expects the Chiefs to release CB Dunta Robinson this offseason. Robinson signed a three-year contract prior to the season, but saw limited playing time at slot corner and was badly exposed by T.Y. Hilton during the Wild Card loss to the Colts. He's due $3.2 million in base salary next year and is unlikely to return in 2014.

Dunta Robinson and Brandon Flowers lined up as the starting corners during Tuesday's minicamp session. Sean Smith came on with the nickel defense, kicking Flowers inside to the slot. It's an intimidating trio for opposing offenses as all three corners are capable of handling No. 1 wideouts. The physically imposing Smith figures to see more time in the base defense when the Chiefs need to slow down a bigger receiver. Flowers graded out as a top-seven corner last season, per Pro Football Focus.

Coach Andy Reid insists Dunta Robinson will be competing for a starting corner job. Reid even said that Robinson would be his No. 1 corner if they were going to practice now. This flies in the face of previous speculation that the ex-Falcon would be shifting to safety in Kansas City. No matter how this all shakes out, the Chiefs are going to have one of the better coverage secondaries in the league with Robinson, Brandon Flowers and Sean Smith.

One NFL agent told the Denver Post that the Chiefs indeed plan to use Dunta Robinson at safety. It's believed Robinson signed a three-year, $15 million contract with $4 million guaranteed, money befitting a free safety as opposed to a starting corner. A striker in the running game, Robinson has also been an efficient tackling cornerback. The position change would explain Kansas City's continued interest in corners. They still haven't publicly stated Robinson's position.

The Kansas City Star suggests the Chiefs might use Dunta Robinson at safety. Robinson lacks ideal size -- he's listed at 5-foot-10, 183 -- but that's not too small for a free safety. In 2012, Pro Football Focus graded Robinson as the NFL's No. 4 run-support corner, behind only Antoine Winfield, Chris Harris, and Jason McCourty. The Chiefs could use Robinson on a Ronde Barber-like role, playing free safety on early downs and covering the slot in the nickel.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos had the last crack at CB Dunta Robinson before he signed with the Chiefs Not surprisingly, the Broncos are looking for a cornerback to play opposite Champ Bailey on the right side. Robinson isn't the ideal candidate to help bolster coverage. According to Pro Football Focus, opponents had the fifth-highest passer rating while throwing in his direction at 102.4. Robinson also allowed the fifth-most yardage to opposing receivers at 835 yards.
