Williams was waived by the Colts on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was among 10 players cut loose Monday as the Colts opened up roster spots for the slew of undrafted rookies they signed over the weekend. The 26-year-old will try to latch on with another organization after appearing in 10 games with the Bills and Colts in 2016, logging four total tackles.

Williams signed with the Colts.
EDGE Analysis
The Colts need depth with Clayton Geathers placed on injured reserve with a neck injury. Williams played nine games with the Bills this season, but had just four tackles. He'll likely have a limited role with Indianapolis.

Williams was released by the Bills on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was drafted in the fourth round of 2013 and while he had a few big plays in his time with the Bills, never really proved he could handle a heavy workload at safety. The team will replace him with a guy that has a better chance to fill that role, veteran James Ihedigbo.

Williams has just four tackles on the season and hasn't had one since Week 3.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was a definite option for more playing time when starting safety Aaron Williams landed on injured reserve, but Robert Blanton has won that job. Duke Williams saw just one snap on defense in Week 8, and remains far off the IDP radar.

Williams ended up starting Sunday's game at strong safety over Aaron Williams, but in the end only saw 21 defensive snaps, BuffaloBills.com reports. Duke Williams logged just one tackle and no other stats.
EDGE Analysis
Aaron Williams is the starter and his snap could will be ramped up as the season progresses as he gets more comfortable following offseason neck surgery, but at least the Bills finally have more confidence in Duke after three seasons of ups and downs. If anything ever happened to Aaron Williams or free safety Corey Graham, Duke might end up being worthy of IDP consideration.

With Aaron Williams still in concussion protocol, Duke Williams could be in line for a significant role to start the season, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said coach Rex Ryan, "Man I'll tell you what. He's the man that's bringing in the coffee. That's how much time he spends in here. So he wants it bad. And I see a different player. I see a player with way more confidence."
EDGE Analysis
Williams was a fourth-rounder in 2013 and hasn't played much in his first three seasons, but he did make some plays in 2015 and has seemingly taken another step forward. While Aaron Williams is expected to be ready for the start of the season, it looks like Duke has a sure spot on the team, likely as the No. 3 or No. 4 safety. And Aaron Williams' health has been no sure thing.

A year after recording 52 tackles, Williams finished the season with just 28 tackles, one sack, and one touchdown while being active for all 16 games.
EDGE Analysis
At one point, Williams was in line to start at free safety following the injury to Aaron Williams, but others ended up impressing more and by the end of the season Duke Williams was barely getting off the bench. We'll see if coach Rex Ryan wants to keep him around, but Williams clearly hasn't taken the leap forward the previous regime - the group that drafted him in the fourth round out of Nevad in 2013 - was hoping for.

Williams had five total tackles - including his first sack of the season - during Sunday's loss to the Jaguars, while seeing action on all 67 of the team's defensive snaps.
EDGE Analysis
In the absence of Aaron Williams, Duke Williams has seemingly taken over the starting free safety job instead of Baccari Rambo, who saw just seven defensive snaps in the loss. Duke Williams doesn't have as much talent as Aaron, but he does have 11 tackles, the sack, and a pass defensed over the last two games.

While Williams did make the team as one of four safeties the Bills kept, he lost out on the starting strong safety job to veteran Corey Graham.
EDGE Analysis
It was never really much of a race even though Graham has never been a full-time safety. Williams and Bacarri Rambo will enter the season as the backups to Graham and Aaron Williams, giving the Bills a pretty strong safety unit.

Williams, who was previously thought to be the starting strong safety favorite following the offseason departure of Da'Norris Searcy, looks to have some new competition in Corey Graham, as Graham appears likely to be switched from cornerback to safety, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said coach Rex Ryan of Graham, "You want to get your best 11 on the field. This provides him an opportunity. He's got that unique ability where he can do both things. So let's see what we have out there. This is no slam on Duke (Williams), or (Bacarri) Rambo, or (Jonathan) Meeks or any of those guys. This is us doing what's best for the team. If that means Corey, we feel good about him playing safety, that's where he will be."
This is certainly not a done deal yet, and Williams still could win the job while Graham gets used as a super-utility type of player. But Graham is coming off an excellent season and has much more experience than Williams, so Williams is now far from a sure thing to see the bulk of strong safety snaps.
