General manager John Elway acknowledged that Lock is "the guy" in Denver, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lock's 64.1 percent completion rate as a rookie was actually better than what he posted in any of his four seasons at Missouri. That's not to say concerns about accuracy or pocket presence can now be totally dismissed, but the 2019 second-round pick at least played well enough to earn the starting job for Week 1 of 2020. Elway was asked about the possibility of signing Tom Brady, and while the GM said he'd be willing to talk with the future Hall of Famer, he also made sure to mention that the Broncos are happy with Lock, per Mike Klis of 9News Denver. There hasn't been any other suggestion that Denver is one of the destinations Brady would consider.

The Broncos have officially announced the hiring of former Giants head coach Pat Shurmur as offensive coordinator. The new mentor for Lock and the Broncos offense averaged 4.5 plays of 20 or more yards per game in two seasons in New York, sixth in the league Patrick Smyth, Denver's Executive Vice President of Public and Community Relations points out.
EDGE Analysis
Just two weeks ago, head coach Vic Fangio was telling reporters that he did not expect to make changes to his staff. Things clearly changed Sunday as news of 2019 offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello's firing quickly made way for rumors that Shurmur was coming to Mile High. Shurmur will be Lock's fourth coordinator in as many years, but there is reason for longterm hope. Despite seldom having much talent or health at quarterback, Shurmur has developed a reputation as a playcaller capable of pushing the envelope downfield. That style seems to suit Lock's big arm and gunslinger mentality. Also, given his two unsuccessful campaigns as head coach, it seems unlikely that Shurmur will jump ship if Lock makes strides in 2020.

Lock completed 100 of 156 passes for 1,020 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions during his five-game rookie campaign. He added 72 yards on 18 carries.
EDGE Analysis
After spending the bulk of the season on injured reserve with a thumb injury, Lock came out guns blazing with two touchdowns in his first quarter of play and a dominant performance in his road debut against Houston. He fell off in a blizzard game in Kansas City and threw for just two touchdowns combined in season-ending wins against Detroit and Oakland. Though the production declined, Lock seemed to have fewer misses and didn't have some of the over-aggressive turnovers he had in his first few outings. Lock was considered a project coming out of the draft, so the fact that his passer rating topped that of the 2019 draft's three first-round quarterbacks should excite fans and a front office that has struggled to find a franchise passer. He'll be the guy in 2020. Expect the Broncos to, at the very least, add a more viable deep threat opposite Courtland Sutton in the draft and look for reinforcements along a line that was decimated by injuries by season's end.

General manager John Elway said Monday that it "is not realistic" for the Broncos to turn to options other than Lock for the Broncos' starting quarterback job in 2020, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
EDGE Analysis
Elway's comments don't come as much of a surprise after Lock guided the Broncos to a 4-1 record in his five starts down the stretch. While his statistics varied from game to game, Lock took care of the ball and occasionally made some flashy plays. Despite being seen as a project when he was selected in the second round of 2019, Lock's numbers stacked up well with the quarterbacks chosen ahead of him. The Broncos might poke around the 2020 draft or in free agency for a cheaper, more reliable backup rather than bringing back one or more of Joe Flacco, Brandon Allen or Brett Rypien, but the team finally seems to have a promising young signal-caller to build around.

Lock completed 17 of 28 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 16-15 win over the Raiders. He added 29 yards on six carries.
EDGE Analysis
For the second week in a row, the opposing defense forced Lock to dink and dunk and, with little success running the ball, the Broncos offense was out of rhythm for much of the game. One of the few exceptions came just before half time when, following a fumble recovery by Trey Marshall, Lock completed a big third-down pass over the middle to DaeSean Hamilton, drew a pass interference call with Courtland Sutton and then dumped it off to Andrew Beck on the next play for a one-yard score. Lock was never really able to recapture the magic of his start against Houston, and he accounted for just two touchdowns in his final three games. He was held under 200 yards passing in three of five starts, all wins. Still, his 89.7 quarterback rating on the season was better than all three of the quarterbacks drafted ahead of him and behind only Gardner Minshew among rookies. The rookie was supposed to be a project, so a solid foundation has been set heading into 2020. Expect the Broncos to try to build around him with a more formidable WR2 and a new starter or two along the offensive line.

Lock completed 25 of 33 pass attempts for 192 yards and a touchdown while accounting for 10 yards on his four rush attempts during Sunday's 27-17 win against Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie signal-caller rebounded from a shaky showing in his homecoming trip to Arrowhead Stadium in Week 15, logging his first NFL outing without a giveaway against a struggling Lions struggling defense Sunday. Lock had thrown one interception in each of his first three career starts coming into the contest, but Sunday he played turnover-free ball while leading two fourth-quarter scoring drives to overcome a 17-13 deficit. He owns a 6:3 TD:INT and a 3-1 record heading into a Week 17 matchup against a Raiders defense that held Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers without a TD on Sunday.

Lock completed 18 of 40 passes for 208 yards and an interception during Sunday's 23-3 loss in Kansas City. He added three yards on two carries.
EDGE Analysis
Lock's return to Missouri wasn't particularly welcoming as snow covered the field and the Chiefs' pass rush routinely got to the rookie passer before he was able to find an open target. The Missouri product had a nice 43-yard pass to fellow rookie Noah Fant to convert a second-quarter fourth-and-short, but Denver's receivers were otherwise unable to get open downfield before Lock was swarmed. That pressure led to Lock throwing a very ill-advised cross-field interception in the red zone in the third quarter. Lock has been good for a boneheaded play or two in each of his first three starts, but he's also shown flashes of promise in each. He probably isn't worth placing on your radar yet, but he does get a much better matchup Sunday at home against the Lions.

Sun 12/8/19 5:07 PM

Lock completed 22 of 27 passes for 309 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 38-24 win at Houston. He added 15 yards on three rushing attempts.
EDGE Analysis
Lock completed 16 of 19 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the first half alone, as the visiting Broncos took a 31-3 lead into the locker room. Those three scores were a 14-yarder to Noah Fant, an eight-yarder to Jeff Heuerman and a three-yarder to Royce Freeman. The rookie second-rounder out of Missouri improves to 2-0 as an NFL starter, and he threw for more than twice as many yards in this one compared to last week. Maintaining that undefeated record won't be easy with a trip to Kansas City on tap for the Broncos in Week 15.

Sun 12/1/19 9:11 PM

Lock completed 18 of 28 pass attempts for 134 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception Sunday against the Chargers. He also carried three times for 15 yards in the 23-20 win.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first NFL start, Lock struggled to the tune of 4.8 yards per attempt while completing just one pass longer than 11 yards. He encouragingly showed a strong rapport with top wideout Courtland Sutton, with whom he connected for a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. Lock also used his mobility to gain a couple of first downs, and, aside from an interception in the third quarter, generally took care of the ball. After a somewhat successful debut, Lock should start again next Sunday in a more favorable matchup against the Texans.

Lock will start Sunday against the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie took first-string reps at practice throughout the week, so Denver will give him a look with Brandon Allen as his backup. Lock was activated from injured reserve this week after missing the first 12 weeks with a sprained thumb in his throwing hand.
