After re-evaluating the Steelers' quarterback situation following the Week 15 loss to the Bills, coach Mike Tomlin determined that Hodges was a better option than Mason Rudolph, who turned in a 12:9 TD:INT and averaged 6.2 yards per attempt over nine outings (eight starts) earlier this season. Hodges' 5:6 TD:INT through six games (four starts) is worse than Rudolph's, but the undrafted rookie out of Samford has generally been the more efficient passer (67.8 completion percentage, 7.5 YPA). In any case, expect the Steelers to rely heavily on their ground attack in Week 16, assuming Pittsburgh isn't forced to play from behind against the 5-9 Jets.

Coach Mike Tomlin wasn't willing to commit to Hodges as the Steelers' starting quarterback for Week 16 against the Jets, Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "I am not getting into that, guys," Tomlin said. "We just lost a football game. I'm not going to make an announcement every week or every time I stand in front of you guys in terms of who is playing quarterback or any other position for that matter."

Hodges threw four interceptions in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Bills, wasting a fantastic performance from the Pittsburgh defense. Speaking to media after the game, the rookie acknowledged a degree of uncertainty about his standing beyond Week 15: "I hope I'm the guy," he said, "but whatever happens, happens. I'm going to be supportive. This is about the team, not me." The biggest thing working in Hodges' favor is the fact that Mason Rudolph, who played himself out of the starting job earlier in the year, represents the likely alternative, although Tomlin could always elect to take a look at Paxton Lynch -- inactive every week since being added to the roster in October -- instead.

Pittsburgh's defense kept the game close from start to finish, but Hodges was unable to get much going against a tough Bills defense. Most of the signal caller's completions were short, safe passes, and when he tried going deep, those throws ended up either incomplete or intercepted. It is pretty clear that the third-stringer's skills are limited, making him a low-end fantasy play against the Jets on Sunday.

Hodges completed 16 of 19 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 23-17 win over Arizona on Sunday. He also ran for 34 yards on four carries.

EDGE Analysis

Hodges did a good job managing the game and avoiding mistakes to lead the Steelers to a third-straight victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. Hodges has a difficult Week 15 matchup against Buffalo, and despite being the first undrafted quarterback in league history to win his first three starts, he doesn't put up the numbers to warrant insertion into fantasy lineups.

The announcement comes as little surprise considering Hodges performed reasonably well during Sunday's win over the Browns, completing 14 of 21 passes for 212 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The undrafted rookie hasn't offered much fantasy production despite his solid work as a replacement quarterback thus far, but Sunday's game in Arizona provides a matchup against a porous pass defense that ranks worst in the league in yardage allowed (307.5 YPG) and opponent QB rating (113.5).

Hodges completed 14 of 21 passes for 212 yards, a touchdown and an interception during Sunday's 20-13 win over Cleveland. He added two yards on five carries.

Sunday was mostly a sloppy, defensive affair, but Hodges made a handful of big tosses downfield. The biggest came just before halftime, a 30-yard rainbow that landed in between two defenders and into the arms of James Washington for a score. The undrafted rookie has been efficient but not particularly productive in spot duty this season. He'll have as good a matchup as he can get next week versus Arizona, which ranks last in the league in opponent passer rating this season.

Hodges took over for a struggling Mason Rudolph this past Sunday in Cincinnati, completing five of 11 passes for 118 yards and one TD. Most of that production occurred on a 79-yard scoring strike to James Washington, but Hodges nonetheless has fared reasonably well in three appearances this season, averaging a shade under 8.0 yards per attempt while tossing two touchdowns versus one interception. He'll look for continued success against Cleveland's seventh-ranked pass defense (217.2 yards per game) this weekend.

Rudolph hasn't been particularly effective of late and Hodges has impressively posted a completion percentage of 75.9 in his limited opportunities. It remains to be seen who gets the starting nod next Sunday against the Browns, but it wouldn't be surprising if the team opted to go with Hodges.

Hodges will serve as the backup to Mason Rudolph during Monday's game against the Dolphins, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

EDGE Analysis

Hodges stepped up as the starter Week 6 while Rudolph dealt with a concussion, and he did just enough to secure a win for Pittsburgh. With Rudolph now healthy coming off the team's bye week, Hodges has resumed taking reserve snaps in practice. The undrafted rookie out of Samford remains ahead of Paxton Lynch on the Steelers' roster, but he doesn't warrant fantasy consideration outside of the deepest of leagues.
