Montgomery (undisclosed) will likely see six-to-10 plays in Thursday's game against the Seahawks if he's able to take the field Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery missed last week's game but did return to practice Monday, though his status has yet to be updated for Thursday. Should he play, coach Matt Eberflus said that some guys will get 20 plays, so his playing time could vary.

Montgomery is day-to-day with an unspecified injury and isn't likely to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery's absence could free up more snaps for backup Khalil Herbert, who may or may not be headed for a larger role under a new coaching staff. Montgomery played 75 percent of snaps in his active games last year, but Herbert did solid work in relief when Monty missed time, running for 344 yards at a clip of 4.4 YPC in a four-game stretch Weeks 5-8. While his rookie year was otherwise quiet, Herbert at least did enough to have a safe lead over Darrynton Evans and Trestan Ebner for Chicago's No. 2 RB role. A shot at something more may depend on Montgomery's performance or health.

Montgomery has been seeing reps both at running back and on special teams during training camp practices, Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns of The Athletic report.
EDGE Analysis
Given that he's been a three-down back when healthy over the last few years, Montgomery's presence on the Bears' kick-return unit has been somewhat surprising. Although his involvement on special teams may not mean that Montgomery's status as the Bears' clear top back is in question, it at least has to be considered a possibility that he could yield more work with Khalil Herbert in 2022.

New Bears coach Matt Eberflus believes Montgomery has the skills to thrive as a pass catcher, but it is possible the running back shares more carries with his backups under offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who comes from a Green Bay system that utilizes multiple backs, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery played 74.3 percent of snaps in his active games in 2020 and 74.6 percent in 2021, while Packers RB Aaron Jones has never gone higher than 61.5 percent. Of course, Getsy was the QBs coach and then pass-game coordinator in Green Bay, making it unlikely he had much say in the RB usage. Even so, there's a good case for giving Montgomery a little more rest this year, after backup Khalil Herbert averaged 86 rushing yards per game in a four-week stretch last October. A knee sprain caused Montgomery to miss multiple games for the first time, and he didn't have much luck on the ground thereafter, averaging 3.5 YPC and 60 rushing yards per game over the final nine contests. He did average four catches per game in the same stretch, essentially returning to his 2020 level of receiving involvement after seeing limited chances early in the year (six catches over the first four weeks). He comes with many of the same drawbacks under a new coaching staff, namely the likelihood of being stuck in a poor offense, though it is possible the Bears' lack of talent encourages more targets sent to the running backs. Montgomery told reporters he isn't worried about getting a new contract as he enters the fourth and final season of his rookie deal.

Montgomery rushed 20 times for 72 yards and brought in two of three targets for seven yards in the Bears' 31-17 Week 18 loss to the Vikings. He ended the season with 225 carries for 849 yards and seven touchdowns in addition to 42 receptions for 301 yards.
EDGE Analysis
After posting a career high 4.3 yards per carry in 2020, Montgomery fell below four yards per carry as he did in his rookie season back in 2019. Regardless, he averaged 20 touches per game, and he has an excellent chance at retaining lead-back duties in 2022, though Khalil Herbert may be able to eat into a portion of his work. Based on his career production, he'll likely be projected as a top-18 running back in 2022 fantasy drafts. Montgomery will enter the last year of his rookie deal before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Montgomery rushed 22 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns while adding two receptions for 17 yards in the Bears' 29-3 win over the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
In a game the Bears controlled throughout, Montgomery was used to control the clock on the ground, though he was unable to break a run longer than 10 yards on the day. However, he took advantage of his opportunities at the goal line by scoring a pair of touchdowns. After posting at least 80 combined yards in each of his last five games, he remain a high-floor fantasy option in the season finale at Minnesota in Week 18.

Montgomery rushed 21 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 61 yards in the Bears' 25-24 win over the Seahawks on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
With Seattle loading up to stop the run, Montgomery found very little room to operate, but by leading the team in rushing attempts and targets, his volume allowed him to surpass 100 yards from scrimmage. He could've had a bigger day, but he was unable to turn a rushing attempt and target from near the goal line during one drive into an additional score. He'll have an excellent matchup against the Giants next week in which he should be a top-15 option at running back.

Montgomery rushed 18 times for 60 yards and caught five passes for 23 yards in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Vikings on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery had a number of successful runs up the middle early in the game, but with the Bears going with a run-heavy approach, the Vikings began to place the focus of the defense on him, resulting in a number of runs for no gain or lost yardage. With Chicago largely unable to move the ball consistently, Montgomery had no chances to carry the ball near the end zone. Although he'll have a couple tough upcoming matchups against the Seahawks and Giants, his volume as both a runner and receiver ensures he'll be a strong option in the fantasy playoffs.

Montgomery (illness) was a full participant in Friday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Montgomery was one of eight Bears who didn't take part in Thursday's walk-through session on account of an illness. All but one of those players returned to the field Friday as full participants, temporarily alleviating some concern about a team-wide COVID-19 breakout. With that in mind, Montgomery looks poised to handle his usual three-down role Monday against the Vikings.

Montgomery didn't take part in Thursday's walkthrough due to an illness.
EDGE Analysis
On the same day in which Chicago placed five players, including top wide receiver Allen Robinson (undisclosed), on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Montgomery was among eight Bears who were non-participants due to illness. Montgomery will have two more chances to mix into drills during Week 15 prep before the team potentially tags him with a designation for Monday's game against the Vikings.
