Thomas was released by the Dolphins on Tuesday, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Thomas was released alongside fellow lineman Billy Turner while adding tackle Sam Young. The move comes following an abysmal performance last Sunday against the Titans in which quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked six times.

Thomas is inactive for Sunday's tilt with the Browns.

Thomas will get the start Sunday, according to the Dolphins web site. Thomas lost his starting job during training camp to Shelley Smith but will get a chance to prove his worth versus the Chiefs as Smith will most likely miss the game with a knee injury.

The Dolphins are giving second-year OL Dallas Thomas the first crack at their starting right guard job. Daryn Colledge is the left guard with Shelley Smith at center. Thomas struggled at right tackle as a rookie, but could prove more functional in tighter quarters. In 2012 at Tennessee, Thomas allowed zero sacks as the Volunteers' starting left tackle. The Fins need Thomas to improve his run blocking.

Thomas played just three offensive snaps as a rookie last season and pointed to the struggle of learning multiple positions and his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery as things that held him back. Third-round rookie Billy Turner is also in the mix at left guard. Thomas was the 77th overall pick last year.

Thomas will compete with rookie Billy Turner, veteran Nate Garner, and second-year UDFA Sam Brenner for the starting job.
