Watt underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in June and could miss the start of the regular season, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
While the recovery timetable doesn't appear to be strenuous, it's yet another setback for the third-year pro, who has been stifled by a litany of injuries throughout much of his career. Considering the Chargers added two centers, free agent Matt Slauson and 2016 third-round pick Max Tuerk, during the offseason, Watt could become a roster spot causality should he not take the field during training camp.

Chargers rookie OG Chris Watt was removed from Saturday's practice for precautionary reasons.
Watt had to be carted off the field due to heatstroke, but is expected to be fine. The No. 89 overall pick, Watt has reportedly shown well early in camp. With Jeromey Clary on active/PUP, he should continue to push Johnnie Troutman for first-team reps at right guard.

The severity of the injury is unknown. Watt kneeled for several minutes on the sideline before being carted off the field. He walked very slowly into the training room. Watt has been working at right guard with Jeromey Clary still recovering from offseason surgeries to both his hip and shoulder.

Chargers third-round OG Chris Watt practiced at right guard in his first Chargers practice.
Watt played left guard his final three seasons at Norte Dame, but his clearest path to playing time runs through Jeromey Clary's right guard spot. Clary was a solid pass blocker last season but struggled mightily in the running game. Watt could immediately challenge Clary for the starting job.

Chargers signed third-round OG Chris Watt to a four-year contract.
Watt, the 89th pick last weekend, started 37 games for Notre Dame at both guard spots in his career. If he shows he's over a torn right PCL and MCL, Watt could challenge RG Jeromey Clary for a starting job and make the vet expendable.
