Young (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Young spent most of the summer rehabbing his neck injury but did get in a round of limited practices this week. That would typically put Young in line to play, but after missing most of camp and the preseason, it's unclear if the Commanders will clear him to play Week 1.

Young (neck) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday ahead of Week 1 versus the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Young played in just three games in 2022 and missed most of the preseason with a neck issue, but it's at least an encouraging sign to see him return to practice. James Smith-Williams probably has the most to gain in terms of playing time if Young sits out of game action.

Young (neck) continues to progress in his recovery but has yet to be cleared for contact, Ben Standig reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young's status for the team's season opener against the Cardinals is now firmly in question. The Ohio State product suffered a stinger during their first preseason game and the injury has since seemingly been downplayed. However, the 24-year-old is still practicing with the team and doing individual drills to get ready for Week 1 despite his inability to make contact. He will have a doctor's appointment again this week, after failing to get clearance at his appointment last Friday, which will likely shed better light on Young's ability to be ready next Sunday.

Young (neck) will visit the doctor Friday to determine when he can be cleared for contact, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young left an Aug. 11 preseason contest with the Browns after suffering a stinger and was practicing in a limited fashion shortly thereafter. However, it appears he still hasn't been cleared for contact, but that could change depending on the results of his Friday evaluation.

Young (neck) has a doctor's appointment this week, but things continue to be "positive," according to head coach Ron Rivera, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young left an Aug. 11 preseason contest with the Browns after suffering a stinger and was practicing in a limited fashion in the days after. However, it appears the 24-year-old may still be feeling the effects of the injury, although it's unclear how much. He'll continue working to get back to full health with Week 1 just over two weeks away.

Young (neck) took it slow in practice Sunday out of an abundance of caution, according to head coach Ron Rivera, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young suffered a stinger during Friday's preseason game against the Browns, but the fact that he was able to take to the field Sunday, even if just for individual drills, should be good news for the 24-year-old. He was limited to just three games in 2022 as he worked to return from an ACL tear suffered during the 2021 campaign, but now fully recovered from that injury, he's focused on getting back to feeling like himself. He told Ralph Vacchiano of FoxSports.com, "Just know that I feel good and I'm running around. I feel explosive again." Young will now work through his latest setback, albeit a seemingly small one, to be healthy come Week 1.

Young left Friday's 17-15 preseason victory over the Browns early due to a stinger, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Ron Rivera did not sound too concerned about the injury following the game, but it is still an issue worth monitoring. Young had his fifth-year option declined by Washington during the offseason and is now looking to bounce back from an injury plagued start to his career.

The Commanders decided Wednesday to decline Young's fifth-year team option for 2024, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young attended the start of Washington's voluntary offseason program and looks to be back to full health after having been limited to just three contests last season, but the 2023 campaign could be his last with Washington. The 2020 first-round pick burst onto the scene as a rookie, notching 7.5 sacks in 15 games, but he's struggled to rebound since sustaining an ACL and MCL tear in his right knee in November 2021. Young is now a candidate to hit free agency after the 2023 season, though John Keim of ESPN.com notes that if the defensive end has an impressive campaign, the Commanders would have the option to use their franchise tag on Young.

Young was present for the start of Washington's offseason program Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young appeared in only three games last season as he recovered from ACL and MCL tears he sustained in November 2021, but he looks ready to go ahead of 2023. Although the team hasn't picked up his fifth-year option on his contract for 2024, the 24-year-old seems to be all-in for what could be his final season in Washington.

Young made only three appearances in 2022 and recorded five tackles and one pass defense on 115 snaps.
EDGE Analysis
The 2020 No. 1 overall pick made his season debut Dec. 24 after suffering ACL and MCL tears Nov. 14 the year before. Young has only nine career sacks through three pro seasons, with 7.5 of those coming in a debut campaign that also included four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award. With a full offseason to continue strengthening his knee, Young has a chance to emerge as a top edge rusher in 2023, his age-24 campaign.
