Young (calf) did not participate in Wednesday's practice, John Hendrix of AthlonSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Young picked up a calf injury in practice last week, which prevented him from playing in the Saints' regular-season opener against the Cardinals this past Sunday. He'll have two more opportunities this week to return to practice and give himself a chance at making his 2025 regular-season debut against the 49ers in Week 2. Chris Rumph and practice squad linebacker Jonah Williams would be candidates to see increased snaps on defense if Young is unable to play.

The Saints re-signed Young to a three-year, $51 million contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Incentives can push the deal to $57 million. The No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 Draft, Young appeared in all 17 games for the Saints last season, his first with the team. Young played 63 percent of the defensive snaps as a sub-package edge rusher and finished the season with 31 tackles (21 solo), including 5.5 sacks, tying him for second-most on the team. The Saints are likely hoping Young can continue to find his early career form. He's still just 25 years old.

Young finished the 2024 regular season with 31 tackles (31 solo), including 5.5 sacks, three pass defenses and one forced fumble through 17 games.
EDGE Analysis
Despite serving as the backup defensive end behind Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan all season long, Young ended up up playing at least 60 percent of the Saints' defensive snaps in 13 of 17 games, and his 5.5 sacks were his most since his rookie season with Washington in 2020 (7.5). Young signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the Saints in March of 2024, so he'll enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent for the second straight year.
