EDGE Analysis
The veteran swing tackle just signed signed a new deal with Dallas in March, but on the eve of training camp Brown decided to hang up his cleats. Second-year player Chaz Green, who spent all of 2015 on the sidelines after hip surgery, is now the favorite to back up Tyron Smith and Doug Free.

Brown was waived by the Giants on Saturday, The Record's Art Stapleton reports.
The Giants needed to make room for the promotion of linebacker Justin Anderson from the practice squad. A former second round pick with the Saints, Brown signed as a free agent with the Giants during the offseason, but things clearly have not gone as the team had hoped.

Brown was probable for Week 1 as well, yet he was inactive against the Lions. Even on a team short on tackle depth, it looks like Brown might be in healthy-scratch territory.

Speaking Thursday, Giants GM Jerry Reese said Charles Brown would be the next man up at left tackle if Will Beatty (leg) isn't ready for Week 1.
In other words, the G-Men want to keep Justin Pugh at right tackle. Beatty is reportedly "ahead of schedule" in his rehab, but remains questionable for Week 1. Brown was a major flop on Drew Brees' blindside in New Orleans last season.

Free agent OT Charles Brown will visit the Giants.
Brown can play both left and right tackle and has 22 career starts under his belt, with 14 of those coming in 2013. He gave up seven sacks and 33 hurries as the Saints left tackle in 2013 and was benched in Week 15 after getting lit up by Rams RE Robert Quinn. Brown would likely be the swing man in New York.

Free agent OT Charles Brown is not expected back with the Saints.
Brown finally stayed healthy in 2013, but lost his job to rookie Terron Armstead down the stretch. Brown wound up grading 66th among 76 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' offensive tackle ratings. The 2010 second-round pick likely won't draw interest as a starter, but Brown could resurface as a swing tackle.
