Minnesota Vikings linebacker Casey Matthews was placed on injured reserve Sunday with a hip injury, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Matthews, who signed this offseason, injured his hip during a team workout and will not be eligible to play this season.

Matthews agreed to terms with the Vikings on Tuesday, Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Matthews played 16 total games in each of his first four seasons in the league, and racked up a career-best 53 combined tackles in 2014. He'll compete for a starting gig in an already-formidable group of Minnesota linebackers.
