Phillips was a star in the XFL, leading the league in receptions (31), receiving yards (455) and touchdowns (nine) through just five contests. The 24-year-old wideout couldn't make a quick transition to the NFL, though, but if he clears waivers, he could be a valuable practice-squad player.

Phillips will be reunited in Carolina with quarterback P.J. Walker, who also played for the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL this past spring. Despite that impressive production, Phillips will have a tough time earning a roster spot after joining Carolina midway through training camp.

Phillips played double-digit offensive snaps in each of the last two weeks, snagging his only target for nine yards in Week 8 versus the Patriots. He'll return to the sidelines in street clothes since Terrelle Pryor is suiting up for his Bills debut.

Phillips didn't look hampered whatsoever, which is notable since he dealt with an unspecified groin injury earlier this summer. The Virginia Tech product is looking to secure a depth role within the Bills receiving corps.
