The Chiefs have claimed Vereen off waivers, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
EDGE Analysis
In a bizarre series of events, Vereen initially retired from the NFL on Monday while he was a Patriot. Then, on Tuesday, he was reinstated from New England's reserve/retirement list only to be released from the team shortly thereafter, and was subsequently thrown into the league's waiver system. Now, on Wednesday, Vereen is officially a member of the Chiefs as Kansas City had been awarded the defensive back from said waiver system, although it's unknown how many teams actually placed a claim for him. He isn't a lock to crack the Chiefs' active roster, but if he can impressive in limited action, Vereen could slide in as a depth option in the Chiefs' talented secondary sans Sean Smith.

The Patriots released Vereen on Tuesday after he was reinstated from the team's reserve/retirement list, the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vereen, who turned 24 on Wednesday, is now subject to waivers and if he goes unclaimed, will become a free agent. The safety did not record a tackle in three games with the Bears in 2015.

Vereen has retired from the NFL, the TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
This announcement comes as a surprise, as Vereen, who latched on with the Patriots this offseason, was reportedly having an impressive preseason. He didn't provide any rationale for how he came to make the decision to call it quits, but his career is likely over after being selected by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Vereen racked up 38 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 16 games during his rookie season, but lasted just three weeks into the 2015 campaign before getting cut.

Vereen was released by the Bears on Tuesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
A fourth-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, Vereen struggled in his four starts last season, then barely played through the first three weeks of the current campaign. Despite his draft status, he may have to wait until next year to get a shot with another team.

Vereen was active for the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Packers but didn't record a tackle.
EDGE Analysis
Vereen saw limited snaps after losing out in the competition for the starting free safety job to Adrian Amos. Neither Amos or Vereen played particularly well in training camp, so it's quite possible that coach John Fox could continue to use practices as a gauge for which player sees the bulk of the playing time at the position during the games to follow.

Vereen finished his first NFL season with 39 tackles and one interception over 16 games.
Used sparingly in the first half of the season, Vereen saw 60-plus snaps in four of the final five games in what amounted to a de facto audition for a 2015 starting job. He didn't exactly seize the opportunity, but the team seems to like his athleticism enough to carve out a larger role for him next season, especially with Chris Conte bound for free agency. Of course, the Bears could spend another draft pick on a safety or bring in a veteran during training camp, so Vereen's path to a starting role is far from clear.

Vereen made four tackles and forced a fumble in Monday's loss to the Saints.
Though he was credited with generating the first turnover of his career, Vereen's lapses in coverage put a damper on his performance. He was making the start in place of Chris Conte (back), who is uncertain to play in the Bears' final two games of the season. Due to a lack of more attractive options, look for Vereen to remain in a starting role as long as Conte remains out.

Vereen will make his first NFL start at free safety Sunday versus the Dolphins, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
With Chris Conte ruled out of action with a shoulder injury, Vereen will step in to form a safety tandem with Ryan Mundy. Vereen, a rookie fourth-rounder from Minnesota, has compiled seven tackles while playing as a reserve in the Bears' first six games.

CSN Chicago's John Mullin said Bears fourth-round S Brock Vereen is "the player to beat out for the No. 1 free safety position."
Vereen handled all of the first-team reps with Chris Conte (shoulder) still recovering, and he made the most of the opportunity. "Brock has done a nice job," said Bears DC Mel Tucker. "He has great attention to detail. He's very sound from a technique standpoint. He's smart; he plays fast. He does not make a lot of mistakes." With Conte still on the mend and questionable for the start of camp, Vereen is the safe bet to start Week 1.

ESPN Chicago reports the Bears "clearly like what they have seen" from rookie S Brock Vereen.
Vereen is getting an extended look opposite Ryan Mundy with Chris Conte sidelined. He's received all of the first-team reps throughout minicamp and only needs to hold off replacement-level talents in Conte and M.D. Jennings for the starting job. Conte is two months removed from shoulder surgery and questionable for the start of training camp.
