A source tells Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed that free agent Brian Urlacher is "leaning toward" the Vikings. Sneed is not a beat reporter and has no history of breaking news. But she does say her source is "close to Urlacher" and the Vikings still make the most sense. Despite a gaping hole at middle linebacker, they didn't use any of their nine draft picks on the position.

Former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist expects free agent Brian Urlacher's market to pick up once teams begin releasing veterans with a post-June 1 designation. "(After June 1) clubs are going to be focusing again on where they can find good, veteran talent that they can bring in at a bargain price," Sundquist said. "I think Urlacher is going to get mixed into that group." Sundquist could be right, but it's not promising for Urlacher that his market remains stone silent nearly two weeks after the draft. Urlacher hasn't made a single visit in free agency.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman "chuckled" when asked about the possibility of signing free agent Brian Urlacher, but refused to rule it out. "Right now, I don't anticipate us doing anything (with Urlacher)," Spielman said. "But in the personnel side, you're always out there looking for potential players or this or that who can come in and add and help you win ballgames." The Vikings failed to address their need at linebacker before the No. 120 pick in the draft, and remain on the prowl for veteran help. If they sign Urlacher, it won't be because of his 2012 tape.

ESPN 1500 Twin Cities thinks there is a possibility the Vikings could look at signing free agent Brian Urlacher. The Vikings have a gaping hole at MIKE linebacker after they didn't do much to address the position in the draft. WLB Erin Henderson could shift to the middle, and second-year LB Audie Cole may also get a look. "We're going to assess what we have," GM Rick Spielman said. "We'll get to that on Monday."

Bears GM Phil Emery hasn't completely ruled out re-signing free agent Brian Urlacher. It was more of a "never say never" sentiment from Emery, who still made it sound highly unlikely Urlacher dons a Bears uniform in 2013. Urlacher is only interested in playing for a contender, but has yet to draw serious interest from any team since his release.

The Bears haven't ruled out re-signing free agent Brian Urlacher. "That's up to the market and (GM Phil Emery) and (coach Marc Trestman)," owner George McCaskey said. "Phil said it's a process, and we just go through it and see what happens." Urlacher's market has been nonexistent since the Bears announced the sides were parting ways, so perhaps he'll eventually sign up for a Rey Lewis-esque one last ride. However, as the face of the franchise, McCaskey is likely just being diplomatic. If Emery and Trestman had any intention of re-signing Urlacher, it almost certainly would have been done by now.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports a "few teams" are interested in free agent Brian Urlacher, but that "nothing is imminent," and no visits have been arranged. Urlacher's agent couldn't muster a single team to leak. Urlacher said last Friday he'd gotten phone calls from the Cowboys, Vikings and Cardinals, but no one appears ready to host the aging linebacker for a visit. Urlacher is going to have to be amenable to a bargain-basement deal to come off the market.

Quizzed by the Chicago Sun Times, 12-of-13 NFL executives agreed the Bears' one-year, $2 million offer to free agent Brian Urlacher was fair. It was more than fair. "He's an aging guy who can't run," said one NFC personnel exec. "Bold move - and the right move - by [Bears GM Phil] Emery. Better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late." Another GM suggested the Bears "could have offered nothing." The one executive who disagreed believes the Bears should have offered up to $3 million because clubs "generally pay a premium to keep a beloved, homegrown player happy." The Urlacher camp's final offer was a one-year, $3.5 million deal. They may have rejected that, anyway.

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have "no interest" in free agent MLB Brian Urlacher. Appearing on the Dan Patrick Show Friday, Urlacher confirmed he'd spoken with the Cardinals in addition to the Cowboys and Vikings, but it appears their "interest" was only cursory. Urlacher is intent on playing in 2013 and sticking it to the Bears, but other teams are going to see on film what the Bears saw up close last season. Urlacher has very little left going on 35.

Free agent MLB Brian Urlacher is intent on playing in 2013. Urlacher had previously said he had "no immediate plans" to retire, but that's transformed to "under no circumstance" will he retire. Urlacher also said the book is "closed" on a return to the Bears. "I think their offer is off the table, and after the way they handled it, I don't know if I want to play for them," Urlacher said Thursday. "Who knows? I may play for $2 million for someone else." Seemingly motivated by spite, Urlacher isn't going to have an easy time getting $2 million on the open market.
