Thompson was cut by the Browns on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was signed just over a week ago following the released of starting defensive lineman Desmond Bryant. He was inactive throughout the 2016 season due to a knee injury and ultimately was unable to find a spot on the team's final roster at the tail-end of training camp.

Thompson signed a contract with the Browns on Tuesday, Mary Kat Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson's signing comes on the heels of Cleveland's release of starting defensive lineman Desmond Bryant. Thompson didn't play in 2016 due to a knee injury. In his last season of action, 2015, Thompson recorded just eight tackles, including 0.5 sacks, in nine games. He figures to compete for a backup role along the Browns' defensive line.

Thompson was released by the Bengals on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson, who's been a disappointment since the Bengals took him in the third round of the 2012 draft, wasn't available at any point last season after tearing his ACL during the last game of the 2015 campaign. He was likely deemed expendable since the team has done a good job of adding younger talent around him in recent years. Regardless, Thompson is now free to sign elsewhere.

Thompson remains on the Bengals' 90-man roster ahead of the 2017 season.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson -- who originally tore his ACL in Week 17 of the 2015 season -- signed a one-year deal with the Bengals last year, but since he spent the entire 2016 season on the Reserve/PUP list, his contract rolled over to 2017. However, the 2012 third-rounder is far from being guaranteed a roster spot and will need to prove his worth in training camp and the preseason.

Thompson (knee) was not activated off the PUP list on Wednesday, Jim Owczarski of Cincinnati.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson, who tore his ACL during the 2015 regular season finale, had returned to practice in late November with hopes of eventually being activated, but as the deadline passed Wednesday such an event won't be the case. Pat Sims and DeShawn Williams will continue to provide depth behind Geno Atkins and Domata Peko at defensive tackle.

Thompson (knee) returned to practice Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The defensive tackle was placed on the reserve/PUP list at the end of the preseason as he continued to rehab a torn ACL. Now cleared to practice, the Bengals will now have 21 days to decide if they want to activate Thompson to the 53-man roster. If he does return, expect him to serve in a reserve role behind starters Geno Atkins and Domata Peko.

Thompson (knee) was placed on the Bengals' reserve/PUP list on Tuesday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson had suffered a torn ACL in Week 17 of 2015 and had missed the entirety of the Bengals' offseason program and training camp. Given the timing of his injury, he wasn't expected to be ready for the start of the regular season anyway. He's first eligible to return to action Oct. 23 for an in-state rivalry match with the Browns.

The Bengals have placed Thompson (knee) on the PUP list to begin training camp, The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move was to be expected, as Thompson had torn his ACL in the regular-season finale versus the Ravens. He reckons to commence the regular season on the PUP list as well, which would subsequently sideline him for the Bengals' first six games.

Bengals signed third-round DT Brandon Thompson to a four-year contract. The Bengals used two early picks on defensive tackles this year, securing Devon Still in the second round and Thompson in the third. They envision 6'2/315-pound Thompson as a squatty nose tackle type, backing up Domata Peko. Thompson figures to play sparingly as a rookie, rotating in when Peko needs a breather.

The Bengals are using third-round pick Brandon Thompson as Domata Peko's backup at 4-3 nose tackle. The Bengals' website describes Thompson as a "hydrant of a nose tackle" with "no neck and all power," and lists him at 6-foot-2, 315. Thompson struggled to create penetration at Clemson, so the position switch looks like a good idea. It could also spell the end of incumbent backup NT Pat Sims' time in Cincy.
