Three Fantasy Football Quarterbacks On the Rise rotoballer.com Tue 8/12/14 10:09 AM

This article references Brandon Gibson, Carson Palmer, Chad Henne, Ryan Tannehill, SP and more! My first rule of thumb in the preseason is to never overreact. That does not mean, however, that we can't glean some valuable information from these meaningless games. QB battles are usually decided in the first two games and it is our first look at how new offensive systems are working. Here are three quarterbacks looking good after week one of the preseason: Stock Up: Quarterbacks on the Rise after Preseason Week 1 Ryan Tannehill - Current ADP: QB22, 158th OverallThe Dolphins[...] Keep on reading: Three Fantasy Football Quarterbacks On the Rise

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 11 fantasysharks.com Tue 11/12/13 5:00 AM

We set aside our top category this week, as nothing stands out as being ‘Smokin' Hot.' There are plenty of players in all our other categories, many of which can be fantasy contributors right away. All the key positions have players worth looking at this week, including a pair of quarterbacks and a trio of tight ends. Several fantasy players are ready to emerge in the coming weeks, so grab them before they become hot commodities. We continue to be high on several running backs that are owned in most formats, but not all, and we'd pick them up over all the players listed this week. This list includes Rashad Jennings (Oakland), Andre Brown (New York Giants), Bernard Pierce (Baltimore) and Shane Vereen (New England). At the wide receiver position, those falling into that same category include Aaron Dobson (New England), Kenny Stills (New Orleans) and Jarrett Boykin (Green Bay). Fear not, if those players are gone, we've got something for everyone in this week's wonders! Solid Pickups TE John Carlson, Minnesota Last week we mentioned Carlson as a "deep" look, this week he graduates as one of this week's top waiver wire pickups. Starting in place of the injured Kyle Rudolph, Carlson caught seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown against Washington. Rudolph was averaging close to 50 yards per game. Based on this first week without Rudolph, we look for Carlson to keep those numbers going as the starting Vikings' tight end. WR Rishard Matthews, Miami The loss of Brandon Gibson clears a spot for Matthews in the lineup, and Monday night against Tampa Bay had him being featured in the slot position. Ryan Tannehill looked in his direction early and often in the contest, as Matthews rang up close to 100 yards in the first half alone, including a touchdown pass. Matthews is worth owning as a low-end wide receiver in all formats. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tennessee With Jake Locker done for the season, the Titans will turn to Fitzpatrick for the duration of the season as their starter. To go along with 264 passing yards, he threw two touchdowns and no interceptions. Of more importance is Fitzpatrick's ability to run, as he also ran his way into the end zone this week. As the starter going forward, Fitzpatrick is worth owning as a backup fantasy quarterback. On the Radar RB Brian Leonard, Tampa Bay The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to rip through running backs, with this week's starter Mike James leaving Monday night's game early with an apparent...

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 9 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/29/13 8:00 AM

A quiet week on the injury front does not leave much to pick from on the waiver wire this week. As a result, we set aside our top category while digging deeply to uncover the next diamond in the rough. Wide receivers dominate this week's list, with a couple of running backs sprinkled in. We dig deep, hoping to find something for everyone this week. On to the wonders ... Solid Pickups WR Aaron Dobson, New England The situation at wide receiver for the Patriots is always evolving, for now it is Dobson that is getting the attention of Tom Brady. For the third time in three weeks, Dobson went for more than 60 yards, and this week he added a touchdown reception to his four-catch total. Julian Edelman has peaked, and the struggles of Kenbrell Thompkins have him seeing more bench than playing time, leaving Dobson the opportunity to establish himself as a go-to receiver for the Patriots. WR Ted Ginn, Carolina With Steve Smith drawing the attention of the defense, Ginn has been putting up consistent numbers as the Panthers' third wideout. Five catches for 80 yards against Tampa Bay gets our attention; he's gone for more than 50 yards four times this season. As Smith continues to burn defenses, that will free up Ginn to be a viable fantasy option. On the Radar WR Kevin Ogletree, Detroit Though he has only been on the Lions a short time, injuries have pushed him up the depth chart and into a starting role. Ryan Broyles is done for the year, so expect Ogletree to get a major increase in action. On an offense as pass happy as the Lions, he is worth owning in all formats. WR Marvin Jones, Cincinnati Many will have Jones ranked higher this week, but a deep look into the Bengals' depth chart has Jones far down on the list of players on Cincinnati that are fantasy producers. Sure, four touchdowns in a week will get some headlines, but these numbers are not sustainable. He is a red zone threat, and for that reason he is "On the Radar," at best he's a fantasy WR3. WR Rishard Matthews, Miami The loss of Brandon Gibson bumps Matthews up on Miami's depth chart, and he is worth a look for fantasy owners. Gibson was having a career year, so the potential is there for Matthews to step in and put up decent fantasy numbers. On the Radar (con't) WR Kenny Stills, New Orleans Making the most of his opportunities, Stills continued to be involved in the Saints passing game. Against Buffalo, he had three catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. ...

TRADING SPACES: Brandon Gibson fantasyfootballwarehou... Fri 7/5/13 5:00 AM

Miami was quite busy this off-season, surrounding 2nd-year franchise QB Ryan Tannehill with a host of veteran receiving options: WR Mike Wallace, TE Dustin Keller and WR Brandon Gibson. FFW Writer Nathan Powell examines the Dolphins other veteran new receiver, now former-Eagle and former-Ram Brandon Gibson, Washington State University's all-time leading receiver.

Waiver Wire Wonders: Week 16 fantasysharks.com Tue 12/18/12 6:30 AM1 Comment

Even with the season winding down, we identify a couple of options out on waivers about whom we feel pretty solid. A few others are worth watching, and we troll the deepest of depths for those of you in deep leagues that need to find something to keep your playoff run going. We spread the wealth out among all the skill positions, something for everyone this week! Solid Pickups WR Brandon Gibson, St. Louis The return of Danny Amendola did not put much of a dent in Gibson's numbers, as he caught six passes which were good for 76 yards against the Minnesota Vikings. His numbers came at the expense of Chris Givens, who saw his production cut to the bone. Amendola is going to get his stats, with Gibson second in line on the Rams. Look for Gibson to continue to be a low-end fantasy option, especially against a weak Tampa Bay defense in Week 16. RB Jackie Battle, San Diego With Ryan Mathews lost for the season, Battle becomes the starting back for the Chargers. Curtis Brinkley got more action last week, but that was only because San Diego was playing from behind. The running game will be on display against the New York Jets in Week 16, so look for Battle to be a decent flex play in Week 16. On the Radar QB Kirk Cousins, Washington After calmly stepping in to complete a clutch comeback against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago, not much was expected of the rookie as the starter this week against the Cleveland Browns. He was surprisingly impressive, spreading the ball around on his way to 329 yards and two touchdown passes. With the listless Philadelphia Eagles on the schedule this week, the Redskins can afford to give Robert Griffin III's knee another week to get better. Keep an eye on injury reports; if Cousins is tapped again as the starter, look for him to have another very successful day against Philadelphia. WR Rod Streater, Oakland After back-to-back games of close to 100 yards, Streater kept things going with a five-catch, 62-yard effort against the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the third week that Streater has been the leading wide receiver for the Raiders, ahead of both Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey. We like his chances to continue these numbers, even against a tough Carolina Panthers team this upcoming week. TE Tony Scheffler, Detroit A disappointing fantasy week for Scheffler; only three catches for 36 yards. We expected more, especially when it was announced that Brandon Pettigrew was not going to dress. Keep ...

Rock And A Hard Place - Week 8 fantasysharks.com Fri 10/26/12 9:00 AM

Four teams are on a bye in Week 8: Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Houston. Between those four teams, we have four starting caliber quarterbacks and several viable running backs, receivers, and tight ends. Then there's DeMarco Murray, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Greg Jennings who are hurt, with many others questionable. Below, I'll list the player, their Week 8 matchup, and the percentage of leagues in which he is owned according to our friends at fleaflicker.com. DISCLAIMER: The hope is that you don't find yourself in a situation like this. The hope is that you dodge the bullet. But hope won't help you come Sunday. Let's move on to this week's targets, keeping in mind that these aren't every week starters. Instead, these are guys that should only be used if you're in some kind of roster emergency, whether it be related to bye weeks or injuries. QB Sam Bradford vs NE -- 41%. Bradford has been a litmus test for passing defenses. His performance is indicative of his opposition. Against Chicago and Seattle, he really struggled. Against Washington and Miami, he played very well. New England has been giving up points to opposing quarterbacks in bunches, so I expect Bradford to put up solid numbers. While I don't know about the 270 yards and three touchdowns we've projected for him, something like 250 and two scores should do just fine. Matt Hasselbeck vs IND -- 16%. Hasselbeck has filled in admirably for injured starter Jake Locker. He's put up enough points to warrant being a decent second stringer or a bye week fill-in. Over the past few weeks, the Titans have actually been scoring a bit, and Hasselbeck has been careful with the football. I think he surpasses the 230 yards and a touchdown in our projections. RB Jonathan Dwyer vs WAS -- 42%. Dwyer finally displayed some of the running skills we'd seen back in college, leading Ben Roethlisberger to even compare him to former Steelers' running back Jerome Bettis. He ran hard, seeming to get stronger as the game progressed, breaking off a 32-yard run to seal the deal late. I'm a big fan of his, and with Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman still slowed by injury, look for Dwyer to get another start this week. Despite the Redskins tough run defense, I like him to outperform our 75-yard projection. Daryl Richardson vs NE -- 30%. Richardson has been a pleasant surprise in St. Louis. While Steven Jackson is still very productive, Richardson has been cutting into his touches. Jackson will end up the goal ...

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 7 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/16/12 9:00 AM1 Comment

The last several weeks have had us talking about many a wide receiver. This week we turn our attention to the running back position and give it some serious love! Injuries continue to play a key role in shaping the weekly waiver wire list, and this week is no different. We've got a guy that will step in and be the starter having an immediate fantasy impact, and we've got several guys that have established themselves as the main backup to the starter. Something for everyone this week! Smokin' Hot RB Felix Jones, Dallas Multiple sources are reporting that DeMarco Murray will miss some time for the Cowboys, which vaults Jones into the starting running back role. Jones put up more than 100 yards of total offense against the Baltimore Ravens, which also included a touchdown. Dallas is a team that does not change its game plan based on their personnel, so Jones will have an opportunity to carry the ball 20-plus times. We have mentioned in previous weeks that it is rare to find a starting running back on the waiver wire that will immediately produce. This is one of those times. Our friends at fleaflicker.com have him as one of their top five selections, look for that to rise quickly this week as he should be the top consideration for many leagues. Solid Pickups RB Montario Hardesty, Cleveland Filling in for the injured Trent Richardson, it was Hardesty that got the call on first and second down for the Browns, performing well enough to tally 50-plus yards on the ground while finding the end zone. Chris Ogbonnaya was the third down specialist, as is usually the case even with a healthy Richardson. Early reports are that Richardson is not seriously hurt, but fantasy owners take note that Hardesty is the player to own should he miss any time. WR Josh Gordon, Cleveland Two weeks worth of impressive yardage totals cannot be ignored any longer. A rookie quarterback and a fantasy address just off one of the Great Lakes are two strikes against him, but back-to-back impressive performances land Gordon on this week's pickup list. Three catches for 99 yards and a touchdown last week, and two touchdown catches for 82 yards the week prior are enough to get the attention of many a fantasy owner. I'm not sure that he is worth a starting spot, but he is certainly worth owning in all formats. RB Daryl Richardson, St. Louis There is nothing physically wrong with Steven Jackson; the Rams are simply giving the ball to Richardson with more regularity. His...

Waiver Wire Wonders - Week 6 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/9/12 8:00 AM1 Comment

A little thinner than usual this week on the waiver wire. Nothing stands out as a "hot" selection, so the top section will take a week off, but we still have plenty of other players to consider. We dig deep into the Injured Reserve list to talk about a couple of impact players that will be back in the next couple of weeks. A couple of running backs got hurt, so we look down the depth charts of those teams, and we play "St. Louis Roulette" to figure out where all of Danny Amendola's action will end up in St. Louis. Something for everyone this week! Solid Pickups WR Vincent Brown , San Diego The Chargers had very high hopes for Brown this year, hoping that he, Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates would form a strong trilogy to catch passes from Philip Rivers. Brown broke his ankle in the preseason, and though many expected that to cost him the entire season, his recovery from surgery was given an eight week time table. Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal have filled in admirably, but it will be Brown that takes over as the top wideout for the Chargers when he returns. With nothing standing out on this week's waiver wire, grab Brown before he gets on the practice field and enjoy his production once his recovery is complete. RB Jahvid Best , Detroit Though Mikel Leshoure showed some promise in Week 3, the Lions have struggled on the ground, so Best would return and assume a significant role in the offense. He hasn't taken the concussion tests yet, but reports are that Detroit is hoping that Best will pass and be ready to play for Week 7. Best is a proven fantasy contributor. Grab him early in advance of him suiting up and being on the field, especially since our friends at fleaflicker.com have him as one of the top five overall pickups this week (and top selection at running back). WR Brandon Gibson , St. Louis The most obvious choice to pick up Danny Amendola's stats is Brandon Gibson. There is a reason that he is available on the waiver wire in most leagues, with his stats showing a disappointing 13 catches in five games so far this season. Sam Bradford will have to throw the ball to someone. And with Amendola out of the lineup, expect Gibson's targets to rise significantly. RB James Starks , Green Bay Despite being a healthy scratch for the Packers this week, the injury to Cedric Benson earns Starks a mention in this week's story. With Benson being out at least eight weeks, we see Starks as being active going forward and sliding in front ...

Audibles Week 3: Scenarios to watch fantasysharks.com Wed 9/19/12 9:00 AM2 Comments

Week 2's surprises are over and I'm personally glad. We saw how bad teams like the Chiefs and Raiders are. I keep wondering why folks see value in players on these teams. Is it because guys like Dwayne Bowe get big stats in complete garbage time? I just can't bear to watch either of these teams play. I guess it doesn't matter when your stats come as long as they do. I still don't buy into owning players from either one of situations. Sure you can make a case a couple times a year, like bye weeks, that starting someone from one of these teams makes sense. Okay you can make a case for two offensive players, but that's about all. I'm making a case to watch the Red Zone channel only. That way I can avoid all the mistakes that the scrub referee's make. Oh wait, these turds are everywhere in games, on the Red Zone channel, and in Steven Jackson's dreams. It's a bad situation when you have to turn to a guy like Mike Perreira who looks like Barry Weiss from TV's Storage Wars for an explanation of what the rule is. I better get to Week 3 scenarios before someone knocks me off my soapbox. My Week 3 Audibles The Buffalo Bills have seen a few stars go down in the last two weeks. After David Nelson went down, one could guess that it would be Donald Jones to get the bulk of the work opposite Stevie Johnson. Wait a minute here folks. It seems that the additional work is going the direction of TE- Scott Chandler. It makes perfect sense to me now... Take Chandler this week vs. a Cleveland Browns defense that ranks 23rd against the tight end. I like this match up and Chandler has already notched two TD's on six catches. He was targeted over five times each week thus far. If you have an injury, I have your solution. I can go on about size and hands, but it may sound too much like your dating career and I just can't go there now. Grab Chandler as he is available in better than 85% of leagues. Cheap- Cheap for now. I gave you a couple of receivers last week to look at in Andrew Hawkins and Andre Roberts. I was disappointed in the targets and yardage totals, but they both found the end zone. I still have confidence in both, but Armon Binns has climbed into my head and he won't leave. That sounds like a confessional that would require me to relax and lay back in a leather chair equipped with an ottoman. So just as I thought that it could be Hawkins emerging as the perfect compliment to A.J. Green, here comes Binns. After 10 targets in the last two weeks, I ...
