Wally's World - Week 8 fantasysharks.com Mon 10/20/14 6:00 AM

I'm not going to mislead my loyal readers. I'm actually typing this piece before the Sunday NightFootball game is over. Oh hell, who am I kidding that game was over midwaythrough the 3rd quarter. Way to step up San Francisco. It was another crazy week in the realm of fantasy footballand here a few things that caught my eye. If only fantasy owners could trust New England to utilize Shane Vereen the way he was on Thursdaynight. That would be so nice...and unexpected. Love how hard ChrisIvory is running the ball and hope he can stay healthy for the entireseason. Should the Patriots keep running the same defensivealignment they did in Week 7 (which wasn't particularly effective) both Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins are going to put up hugeIDP-fantasy numbers. So the Jets now have PercyHarvin, eh? This is a match in ‘they deserve each other' heaven. Fantasy wise? Yawn. Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing Bryce Brown will be active next week for the Buffalo Bills. Well, the Kirk Cousinsera was fun while it lasted. By that I mean, I bet it was fun for the defenses that linedup against him. Not for his fantasy owners... oh heck, no... that was not fun atall. Losing to Jacksonville with the kind of performance that Brian Hoyer put up Sunday can lead toonly one conclusion: Start up the ‘Johnny Football' hype machine!! Hello there, DenardRobinson. Looks like Jacksonville may have a running back after all. May as well give a hearty welcome to fantasy-relevant Tre Mason while we are at it. The Ramsrunning back situation should have gotten a lot clearer this week. Apparently, it was JoshMcCown that made the Bears offense the juggernaut it was last season. I'mjust saying. What is the knock on AndyDalton, again? Oh yeah...he can be wildly inconsistent. Case in point...thisgame against the Colts. Brandon Flowers I'dlike you to meet Jamaal Charles. Ouch! That is why cornerbacks prefer not to tackle. It was nice to see GoldenTate step up and produce WR1 numbers with Calvin Johnson out again. You think Seattle regrets letting this kid go? Me, too. Speaking of Seattle. Wow. The Rams? Really? Wow. On the plus side, the CooperHelfet owners are dancing after the Seahawks tight end's performance thisweek. Both of them. Lamar Miller isplaying like a man who almost lost his job twice. He's running hard andcontributing in the passing game. He is a weekly start at RB for fantasypurposes moving forward. Was that RyanTannehill or Dan Marino picking apart ...

IDP Studs and Duds - Week 11 fantasysharks.com Fri 11/15/13 8:50 AM

Every week during the 2013 season, I'll point out some individual defensive players who could be set to exceed expectations this week (studs) and some that for whatever reason are riskier plays than usual (duds). This isn't necessarily to say that every "stud" is a must-start (it depends on your other options) or that every "dud" should be glued to your bench (just that the odds of a letdown week are greater than usual). Only two teams are on a bye in Week 11, with St. Louis and Dallas taking the week off. Get James Laurinaitis and Barry Church out of starting lineups this week. STUDS Jared Allen, DE, Minnesota (at Seattle): Allen has been a pretty big disappointment this year, with his five sacks putting him on pace for his lowest total since 2006. With that said, however, this week's tilt against a Seattle team with all kinds of injury issues up front would seem a good opportunity for a rebound performance. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Detroit (at Pittsburgh): OK, so last week's Mario Williams recommendation blew up in my face against the Steelers. That still isn't stopping me from singing Suh's praises this week against a Pittsburgh team giving up the third-most fantasy points to defensive linemen. Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, New York Jets (at Buffalo): Wilkerson has already tallied as many sacks in 2013 as he did in 2011 and 2012 combined, including a sack in five consecutive games. Odds are good that becomes six in a row this week against a Buffalo team allowing the most fantasy points to defensive linemen this year. James Anderson, OLB, Chicago (vs. Baltimore): With Lance Briggs on the shelf, Anderson has become the de facto leader of the Chicago linebackers. That bodes well for his IDP prospects in Week 11, as Baltimore has been the friendliest fantasy matchup for linebackers in Fantasy Sharks Default IDP Scoring this season. Nick Roach, MLB, Oakland (at Houston): Roach has been a steady (if unspectacular) IDP option of late, with 12 solos and a sack over the past two games. The seventh-year veteran has a good shot at bettering that production Sunday against Houston, who is the second-best IDP matchup for opposing linebackers in 2013. Philip Wheeler, OLB, Miami (vs. San Diego): Wheeler has been good but not great for the Dolphins this year, with the 28-year-old on pace to top 110 tackles. Wheeler should have no problems keeping that pace up this week against San Diego, who has surrendered the third-most fantasy points to linebackers this season. ...

IDP Sleepers - Week 4 fantasysharks.com Fri 9/27/13 9:06 AM2 Comments

Week three is in the rear view mirror and week four is upon us (is it me or is this season flying by?) and the IDP landscape is as turbulent as ever. If your squad is 3-0 then congratulations and keep up the good work. If 0-3 is your record at this point then the panic button is not far from being pushed. Anywhere in between the two extremes is a fine place to be and ground can be made up easily with the right roster decisions. Week four ushers in the beginning of bye weeks and even though it is a light one with only Carolina and Green Bay having the week off there are still fantasy ramifications. Luke Kuechly owners will need to look elsewhere for tackle production and that's where '53 Deep' comes to the rescue. Fueled by a passion for IDP football, and way too much Red Bull, here is a look at week four's hidden gems to help lead IDP teams to victory. LINEBACKERS Manti Te'o, ILB, SAN DIEGO vs. Dallas: I'm rolling the dice here with the rookie but the fact he's been practicing for the past two weeks tells me he is ready for extended action. Whether or not he stays on the field on third downs is still a question but against a Dallas offense that rediscovered the run last week he will still hold value. He's sat on fantasy benches long enough and it's time to roll the rookie out. Rey Maualuga , MLB, CINCINNATI vs. Cleveland: As strange as this feels to write, it appears Maualuga is a bit of a matchup proof MLB right now. He put up an impressive eight solo stops last week against Green Bay and is in store for another big week. Cleveland has been a nice match up for LBs over the first three weeks and Maualuga and Vontaze Burfict could both approach double-digit tackles this week. Demario Davis , ILB, NEW YORK JETS at Tennessee: We are riding the hot hand here with Davis for the second consecutive week. He rewarded IDP owners last week with six total tackles and his first sack of the season, which are nice numbers for a sleeper. This week he has another good matchup against a Titans team that is still committing to the run and allowed 16 total tackles to ILBs last week against the Chargers. Davis is in store for another productive fantasy week. Kevin Burnett , OAKLAND vs. Washington: Burnett exploded for 10 solo tackles with a forced fumble and pass defended last week. This week he will approach the same numbers as the Redskins pound the ball with RB Alfred Morris. Detroit Lions WLB DeAndre Levy posted nine total tackles (six solo) last week ...

STUDS AND DUDS: Week 2 IDP Start/Sit fantasysharks.com Fri 9/16/11 5:58 AM

Ladies and gentlemen, Sharks of all ages, one week of IDP Studs and Duds is in the books, and while I whiffed on a few (Ray Edwards, Julius Peppers) I also hit a few right on the nose (Barrett Ruud, Bernard Pollard), so while it's not time for me to start writing any awards acceptance speeches (besides, they're already written) I can at least head into Week 2 with my head held high. With that in mind, here's a look at some players you should give serious consideration to getting into your lineups or who could outperform expectations (Studs) and some that, for whatever reason, you may want to consider leaving alone, or at least take into account that they may be a relative disappointment this week (Duds). STUDS Turk McBride, DE, New Orleans (vs. Chicago): My deep league sleeper spot start of the week goes up against a Bears offensive line that didn't look a whole lot better in pass protection last week than they did in 2010, and given how much Saints' defensive coordinator Gregg Williams likes to get after the quarterback, McBride's got a solid shot at a sack this week. Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, New York Giants (vs. St. Louis): Pierre-Paul looks ready to join the ranks of the elite options at his position and faces off against a St. Louis Rams team that gave up five sacks to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. Jabaal Sheard, DE, Cleveland (at Indianapolis): The Indianapolis offense was a comedy of errors last week and was manhandled badly by the Houston defensive front, so now seems as good a time as any to prognosticate Sheard notching his first quarterback sack as a professional. Pat Angerer, MLB, Indianapolis (vs. Cleveland): In case you've been living in Myanmar the past week or in jail, Gray Brackett is almost certainly out this week, bumping Angerer to the middle and making him an absolute must start against a Browns team that will probably pound away with Peyton Hillis. David Hawthorne, MLB, Seattle (at Pittsburgh): Hawthorne missed Seattle's loss to San Francisco last Sunday with a knee injury but practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday and appears set to return in a very favorable matchup against running back Rashard Mendenhall and the Steelers. Sean Weatherspoon, WLB, Atlanta (vs. Philadelphia): The second-year pro paced the Falcons with 10 stops in Week 1 and appears to be flourishing in his new role as the every down WLB, and Weatherspoon and the entire Atlanta defense should be plenty busy in Michael Vick's return to the Georgia Dome. Brandon...
