Annen appeared in five games for the Bears in 2014, logging no offensive statistics. Annen was added to the Bears' roster in November, but as the team's No. 3 tight end, his contributions were primarily limited to special teams. The 23-year-old profiles as little more than a depth option at tight end long-term and is far from a lock to crack the Bears' 53-man roster to open 2015.

The Bears promoted Annen from their practice squad Saturday. This could be viewed as an ominous sign for Martellus Bennett (ribs), though the Bears may just be playing it safe adding Annen, as Dante Rosario was previously the only other option at tight end behind Bennett. Bennett said Friday that he will "probably" give it a go Sunday night against Green Bay.
