Former Rams and Vikings LB Ben Leber has retired from football. Leber opened last season as St. Louis' starting weak-side linebacker, though he was benched after three games and waived in December. The 33-year-old enjoyed his best years with the Vikings in the mid- to late-2000s, where he started at both outside spots and played inside in the nickel. Leber finishes his career with 113 starts, 24 sacks, five interceptions, and 13 forced fumbles.

The Eagles recently worked out free agent LB Ben Leber. Signed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract by the Rams last August, Leber struggled to get on the field before drawing his release in December. Now 33, he won't draw interest as anything other than a veteran camp body.

Rams waived LB Ben Leber. Leber was a huge disappointment for the Rams after signing a one-year, $1.25 million deal in training camp, and was sent to the bench in favor of Chris Chamberlain in Week 6. He had been alternating between being a reserve and healthy scratch the past six weeks. Four days shy of his 33rd birthday, the sun is rapidly setting on Leber's 10-year NFL career.

Ben Leber left Monday's Week 2 game against the Giants late in the third quarter with a groin injury, and is questionable to return. It was a non-contact injury and Leber was seen on the sideline bicycle shortly after. He was replaced by backup Chris Chamberlain.

Ben Leber and Brady Poppinga are expected to open the season as the Rams' starting outside linebackers. Both are over-30 offseason free agent additions. Leber would replace Chris Chamberlain and Bryan Kehl at weak-side linebacker, with Poppinga overtaking SLB Na'il Diggs. Diggs is 33 with a $1.25 million salary, so it's fair to wonder if losing his starting job to Poppinga would also cost Diggs his roster spot.

Free agent LB Ben Leber visited the Seahawks on Monday. The Seahawks could use some competition at weak-side linebacker, where troubled Leroy Hill is currently projected to start. Leber, 32, was the Vikings' Will 'backer for the past three seasons. He also has special teams experience.

The Seahawks are one of four teams that are talking to free agent WLB Ben Leber, according to ESPN's John Clayton. Leber will be 33 in December and is finding a soft market. The Seahawks look like a nice fit as the oft-injured and troubled Leroy Hill is currently penciled in on the weak side. The Seahawks lost backup Will Herring to the Saints.

According to WLB Ben Leber's agent, re-signing with Minnesota is his client's first choice, but "I don't know if they have the money or the cap space to do it." This from Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Vikings did not contact Leber before the lockout, and all signs point to the veteran ending up elsewhere. Erin Henderson and rookie Ross Homan are two in-house options that could be given a chance to compete with an UDFA.

Free agent WLB Ben Leber indicated that he doesn't expect to re-sign with the Vikings for the 2011 season. Chad Greenway also predicts Leber won't be back, even though the 32-year-old would like to re-sign in a perfect world. "The reality is if they were really, really wanting me back then maybe something would have been said before the lockout," said Leber. "It's not always up to you and you have to be willing to move on."
