Lions released OT Barry Richardson.
Even as a vested veteran, Richardson must clear waivers since his release came after the trade deadline. Richardson's release is a sign RT Corey Hilliard (knee) is ready to return for Week 10.

Lions signed OT Barry Richardson.
TE Tony Scheffler (concussion) is expected to be released or placed on injured reserve in a corresponding roster move. A 16-game starter each of the past three seasons, Richardson couldn't make it past final cuts with the Titans. He held his own with the Rams in 2012, however. His addition is a sign RT Corey Hilliard is in danger of missing Week 8.

Titans released or waived OT Barry Richardson, WR Roberto Wallace, TE DeMarco Cosby, K Maikon Bonani, S Tracy Wilson, and WR Justin Hilton.
The Rams' starting right tackle last season, Richardson was signed in June. He obviously didn't show much in camp. Noted for his lack of separation skills on last summer's Hard Knocks, Wallace doesn't look like he's ever going to cash his 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame into a permanent roster spot.

Titans agreed to terms with OT Barry Richardson, formerly of the Rams.
A five-year veteran, Richardson has started 48 consecutive games. A former Chief, he served as the Rams' right tackle last season, but was thoroughly mediocre. He'll serve as veteran insurance for RT David Stewart (broken leg). LT Michael Roos is also dealing with a minor back injury, but is expected to be fine for camp. Richardson should be able to lock down a roster spot.

Barry Richardson has supplanted Jason Smith as the Rams' starting right tackle.
It's concerning news for Smith, as Richardson struggled mightily with the Chiefs last season. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas believes the job is "definitely" up for grabs, and may take the entire preseason to sort out. Richardson started the Rams' preseason opener, and is practicing with the first-team offense.

Free agent OT Barry Richardson visited the Rams on Thursday.
The Rams were apparently sending out a casting call for a swing tackle, as Robert Turner and Quinn Ojinnaka were also brought in. Ojinnaka was signed, likely eliminating Richardson from contention.

The Kansas City Star suspects the Chiefs will target an offensive tackle early in this year's draft.
Free agent Barry Richardson was one of the least effective right tackles in football last season. While Branden Albert finally emerged as a fine all-around left tackle in 2011, he's now entering a contract season. The Chiefs have no depth to speak of behind Albert.

Chiefs RT Barry Richardson was flagged for three holding penalties in Kansas City's preseason game against the Rams on Friday.
Meanwhile, recent signee OT Jared Gaither made his Chiefs debut, but was also flagged for a holding penalty. After struggling in pass protection last season, it would be far from surprising if Richardson was eventually sent to the bench with Gaither taking over at left tackle and pushing Branden Albert to right tackle.

Chiefs RT Barry Richardson is expected to face competition for his starting job this summer.
Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com believes it would be an "absolute shocker" if a veteran tackle (or two) isn't signed once the lockout is lifted. Richardson acquitted himself well as a run-blocker but struggled to keep pressure off Matt Cassel in his first season as a starter.
