Traylor never seemed to have a realistic chance of cracking a deep depth chart in Detroit and he's probably not even the best tight end that was signed to the Lions' practice squad, given the presence of Isaac Nauta. The rookie out of Wisconsin is primarily a developmental prospect and is unlikely to make any sort of impact in 2019.

Traylor and the Lions agreed on an undisclosed contract Tuesday.

Traylor comes to Detroit via the Salt Lake Stallions of the AAF, where he caught two passes for 12 yards in eight games. He also was part of the Broncos' practice squad in 2017 and was elevated to the active roster, where he suited up in seven games, and hauled in eight catches for 100 yards.

Traylor found himself stuck behind the likes of Jeff Heuerman and Jake Butt on the depth chart as cut down day loomed. With Denver's decision to draft Troy Fumagalli, the writing on the wall became ever-apparent for Traylor. It remains to be seen whether he'll latch on elsewhere.

It was good to see Traylor on the field following the shoulder injury that been nagging him for about a week. Traylor combines experience and youth to make his case for a roster spot, but the team's final two preseason affairs could prove to be particularly important for the Wisconsin product's chances of making the team.

Traylor, who sustained a shoulder sprain during Saturday's preseason loss to the Vikings, was kept to the sideline Monday as he observed practice. The severity of the injury doesn't sound too serious, but the Broncos' tight end room is now dealing with a handful of issues with Jeff Heuerman (knee) and rookie Troy Fumagalli (sports hernia) also nursing injuries.

This is a Broncos' tight-end room with few established options. Jake Butt and Troy Fumagalli have yet to play an NFL snap. Jeff Heuerman, a former third-round pick, has yet to live up to his draft position in three seasons. Traylor, undrafted out of Wisconsin, actually played more offensive snaps than Heuerman during the final five weeks of the 2017 season -- 179 to 139. Don't be surprised if he finds a way to make the team.

Traylor finished 2017 with eight catches and 100 yards on 13 targets.

EDGE Analysis

Traylor saw a mid-season promotion to the active roster and the Wisconsin product promptly saw the field for more offensive snaps than longtime starter Virgil Green. He faded down the stretch, but Traylor provides Denver with a flex tight end to develop alongside more traditional Y-tight end Jake Butt and, to a lesser extent, Jeff Heuerman. Traylor could be a No. 2 option at the position next season depending on how the offseason shakes out.

Traylor caught both of his targets for 16 total yards during Sunday's 35-9 loss in Miami.

EDGE Analysis

Traylor not only joined his first professional active roster three weeks ago, he took the starting job. Traylor has led Denver tight ends in offensive snaps in each of the past three weeks and logged 53 on Sunday as compared to former starter Virgil Green's 21 and former third-round pick Jeff Heuerman's 14. It's hard to judge Traylor's abilities too much with the Broncos' never-ending disaster at quarterback, but the second-year player has showed promise late in the season.
