Allen has signed with the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Allen spent the entirety of the 2015 season recovering from a torn achilles he suffered during training camp, and signed with the Texans in March of 2016 before being released by the team during final roster cuts. However, it didn't take long for Allen to get scooped up by his old squad. He spent the first three seasons of his career with the Jets, starting 18 of 38 games, but returns to New York firmly entrenched behind Marcus Gilchrist on the free safety depth chart.

EDGE Analysis
Allen, who spent last season on IR with a torn Achilles, is now in line to provide the Texans with added depth at safety, plus he can serve as a contributor on special teams. In his last NFL regular season action, Allen notched 41 tackles in 15 games (including eight starts) for the Jets in 2014.

Allen will likely play cornerback for the rest of the season, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. Allen was forced to switch from safety to corner for depth reasons, and he has played well enough to remain at the position moving forward. He has recorded 17 tackles (16 solo) and five pass deflections through three games this season.

Allen (concussion) has been medically cleared and will start at cornerback in Sunday's regular season opener versus the Raiders, ESPN New York reports. Allen, a converted safety, suffered a concussion during the Jets' third preseason outing, but returned to practice without a red no-contact jersey on Tuesday. Given New York's injury depleted crop of cornerbacks, Allen is slated to start in Week 1 against Oakland's rookie quarterback Derek Carr.

Allen (concussion) returned to positional drills at Tuesday's practice, the New York Daily News reports. Allen also practiced without the red no-contact jersey he had been wearing at recent sessions. Following a concussion in the Jets' third preseason game, Allen's chances of suiting up for Sunday's regular season opener appear favorable. Additionally, with Dee Milliner (ankle) still on the mend, the converted safety Allen could very well start at cornerback in Week 1 against the Raiders and rookie quarterback Derek Carr.
