Profootballtalk reports there's an "increasing chance" the Bengals won't re-sign free agent RT Andre Smith.
According to a league source, the Bengals are "now inclined to see if they can find a cheaper and younger replacement for Smith via the draft." Amid a league-wide market "reset," Smith has refused to lower his asking price, and it's resulted in nearly nonexistent interest. At this point, Smith's best bet may be taking a one-year deal and hitting the market again in 2014. He'd draw big-time interest if his 2013 went anything like his 2012.

The National Football Post's Dan Pompei reports that several personnel men he has spoken with believe free agent RT Andre Smith is "highly overrated."
This would explain Smith's complete lack of a market nearly a month into free agency. Smith, 26, started all 16 games for the first time in his career last season, and he finally lived up to his draft status by being a mauling run blocker and fine pass protector. However, prior to 2012, Smith missed 21 games in his first three seasons while also battling weight concerns. Teams are scared he might revert back to his old ways once a hefty paycheck comes his way.

Per the Cincinnati Enquirer, "indications are" free agent RT Andre Smith and the Bengals are "not close" to a new deal at the moment.
There's no telling when a deal between the two sides will get done, but it's hard to imagine Smith not being back with the Bengals in 2013. Getting Smith locked up is Cincinnati's final task to knock out before the draft in three-plus weeks.

The Cincinnati Enquirer still expects the Bengals to re-sign free agent RT Andre Smith.
Beat writer Joe Reedy believes a four-year pact worth roughly $26.5 million with $7-$8 million in guarantees would be "best for both parties." That would be less guaranteed money than Sebastian Vollmer settled for in New England, but a much bigger base value. Smith has yet to even make a visit since the start of free agency. It's hard to see him escaping the Queen City.

Owner Mike Brown insists the Bengals are still intent on re-signing free agent RT Andre Smith.
"They know that we want to make a deal and we want them to engage and get it done," Brown said Friday. Brown is sitting on more salary-cap loot than any owner in the league, but is being predictably stingy with his cash. With Smith's market not developing the way it was expected to, the Bengals are likely to remain idle until his price comes down even further. Smith should eventually be back in Cincinnati.

According to SI's Peter King, several teams are "scared" of free agent RT Andre Smith.
Per King, teams "fear what a big signing bonus would do to (Smith's) desire." The No. 6 pick of the 2009 draft struggled with weight and injury issues his first two years in the league, and didn't put it all together until he was playing for a new contract. Smith was perhaps the league's most dominant right tackle in 2013, but his past will be a ghost in negotiations. He's reportedly seeking $9 million per season.
