Free agent DE Andre Carter (torn quad) has reportedly been working with Patriots team doctors at Gillette Stadium. Although Carter has been using the Patriots' medical facilities, there is "nothing imminent" in terms of a new contract. The 33-year-old pass rusher should begin drawing more league-wide interest closer to training camp.

According to SI's Peter King, free agent DE Andre Carter (torn quad) will be "ready to practice full-speed in training camp." King also passes along word that "some observers" believe the Ravens may be interested in Carter as a fill-in for RE/OLB Terrell Suggs (Achilles). However, King considers Carter ending up in Baltimore "unlikely." King believes the Patriots are still open to re-signing Carter after he notched 10 sacks in 14 games last season.

Free agent DE Andre Carter acknowledged that he hasn't heard from the Patriots since last season ended. "They kind of just said, 'Thanks for everything,' at the end of the year and I haven't heard from them since," said Carter. "But I'm optimistic everything works out." Carter tied Mark Anderson for the team lead in sacks last season. He is expected to sign somewhere after his torn quadriceps muscle has fully healed.

The Boston Herald reports the Patriots are in "no real rush" to re-sign free agent DE Andre Carter. The Herald considers Carter the most likely of the Patriots' remaining in-house free agents to re-sign, but he's still in the middle of rehabbing his torn quad. He was "limping heavily" as recently as late-March. Coming off his third 10-sack campaign in five seasons, Carter should ultimately return to New England on a one-year deal.

According to the Boston Globe, it "sounds as if" free agent DE/OLB Andre Carter will re-sign with the Patriots. The Globe believes Carter might even be willing to give the Patriots a bit of a hometown discount. Fellow free agent DE/OLB Mark Anderson is considered more likely to walk, but the Globe concedes it's a "very interesting situation that no one really has a read on." Free agent DE Shaun Ellis is not expected back.

The player rep for free agent DE/OLB Andre Carter revealed that he's had "initial talks" with the Patriots about a return. Carter is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn quadriceps. Though it's still early in contract talks, Carter does want to be back in New England. It's not great fit, however, as Carter struggled at outside linebacker with the Redskins. The Pats moved back to a primarily 3-4 scheme late in the season.

Patriots will place RE Andre Carter (quadriceps) on injured reserve, ending his season. The injury will require surgery, leaving Carter unavailable for the playoffs. The league's 32nd-ranked defense will now play without benefit of the team's most effective pass rusher. Mark Anderson will pick up snaps, but he's a liability in the run game. Carter will turn 33 in 2012, but he should attract more free agent interest this time around after 10 sacks in 13 games.

Patriots RE Andre Carter was carted to the locker room in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Broncos with a left knee injury. Carter went down and stayed down, and it's quite possible his season is over. It's almost certain his afternoon is through, which is horrible news for a Patriots defense that has been getting gashed. Easily the top pass rusher for a unit that's struggled to create pressure, Carter had 10 sacks in 13 games coming into today.

Andre Carter tallied a Patriots record 4.5 sacks in Sunday's win over the Jets. With Mark Sanchez confused by the Patriots' blitz packages, Carter got to the quarterback almost at will, nearly doubling his season sack total in the process. With 8.5 sacks in his past four games, he's a must add if somehow still on the waiver wire in your IDP league.
