Raiders released OT Alex Barron.
Signed in March despite having not appeared in a game since 2010, Barron was briefly penciled in as the Raiders' starting left tackle after Jared Veldheer (triceps) went down, but put together a predictably disastrous preseason rsum. Why Barron was ever on the roster in the first place is a mystery, but at least the Raiders aren't leaving open the possibility of trotting him out there in games that count. Among the most-penalized players in league history (we're guessing), Barron was a swinging gate when he wasn't holding. His NFL days are almost certainly over.

Former Rams GM Billy Devaney ripped into Raiders LT Alex Barron Monday.
Devaney was named the Rams' general manager in 2008, three years after St. Louis used the No. 19 overall pick on Barron. He promptly traded the left tackle to Dallas in 2010. "He's got the skill to play. He does not have the heart to play football," Devaney said of Barron. "He does not like anything about the game except getting paid." Barron is penciled in as the Raiders' starter thanks to Jared Veldheer's tricpes injury. It's a massive downgrade.

With Jared Veldheer (triceps) out three months, Alex Barron is expected to open the season as the Raiders' starting left tackle.
Barron has been out of the NFL since the 2010 season, when he made one start for the Cowboys and committed three penalties. In 2009, Barron was St. Louis' starting left tackle for all 16 games and graded out as Pro Football Focus' 68th tackle among 77 qualifiers. Needless to say, this is a nightmare situation for which the Raiders were unprepared. Best of luck to you, Matt Flynn.

The San Francisco Chronicle believes Alex Barron has a chance to open the season as the Raiders' starting right tackle.
Wow. This shows just how little talent the Oakland roster possesses. Barron hasn't played a down of football since Week 8 of the 2010 season with the Cowboys. The soon-to-be 31-year-old has been a turnstile and penalty machine since being selected 19th overall by the Rams in 2005. The Raiders are reportedly considering kicking RT Khalif Barnes inside to right guard, opening a spot for Barron.

Raiders agreed to terms with OT Alex Barron.
No word on if a penalty was committed in the process. Barron couldn't make it past final cuts with the Seahawks last season, and hasn't appeared in a game since 2010. The error-prone former Cowboy and Ram will turn 31 in September. Something will have gone wrong for the Raiders if he makes the team.

Seahawks agreed to terms with OT Alex Barron, TE Cooper Helfet, CB Donny Lisowski, and OT Andrew Mitchell.
A 74-game starter with the Rams from 2005-2009, Barron will vie for a backup job in Seattle. Helfet, Lisowski, and Mitchell are undrafted free agents out of Duke, Montana, and Oklahoma State respectively. Lisowski earned praise from coach Pete Carroll after the weekend's rookie minicamp.

Free agent OT Alex Barron is attending the Seahawks' rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.
Barron also attended a tryout with the 49ers in March, but wasn't signed. He's clearly interested in playing again. Barron, 29, last appeared in a game with the Cowboys in 2010. He also spent some time with the Saints in 2011.

The 49ers held an open tryout for street free agents on Monday, and former Rams first-round pick Alex Barron was in attendance.
Barron has been out of football since being released with an injury settlement by the Saints in October of 2011. Barron, 29, could add depth and compete for a roster spot in San Francisco, although no formal signings have been announced.

Saints released OT Alex Barron (knee) with an injury settlement.
Barron suffered a torn meniscus midway through training camp, but should be healthy after having over two months to heal. One of the league's most penalized players during his five years with the Rams, Barron appeared in just 11 games for the Cowboys last season.

Saints placed OT Alex Barron (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
A false-start or holding penalty waiting to happen in his years as a Rams starter, Barron had been sidelined by a left knee injury in camp. He wasn't viewed as a legit possibility to step in for the recently released Jon Stinchcomb.
